That child dying had to be one of the more messed up things I've seen in an anime
when i think about Fate, first things in my mind "the fighting scenes and heroic moments"! I do always forget it's Daaark! Great combination! When the show goes dark, it hits hard!
You had a few questions that I can answer to make it a little less confusing to follow. These have already been revealed or should be known by now.
1) Heroic spirit = Servant. They are interchangeable.
2) Masters do not need relics in order to summon they just need to be deemed worthy by the Grail. A relic allows the master to have some level control over who they summon. Like how Kiritsugu used Excalibur's scabbard to summon King Arthur.
3) Iskander is another name for Alexander the Great. I believe it's his name in a different language. That should give context on why he has such a big interest in conquest and his kingdom's domain in the current world.
"Heroic spirit" is a generalized term for the spirits that are summoned yes. There are multiple different kinds of heroic spirits which is important for the wider nasuverse lore. But here specifically the only one you need to know about is the servants, they are the heroic spirits specifically summoned for the holy Grail ritual
It's real simple:
King Artur is a "Heroic Spirit" and "Saber" is a servant
So, "servant" is the Heroic Spirit being limited to one class
Like, King Arthur has a Legedary Spear and great Horses
But she can't summon because she is a "Saber"
For now, it's ok thinking "Heroic Spirit" and "Servant" as the same
But, in other Fates will have "Divine Spirits" and "Phantom Spirits"
So, another kind of spirits can be summoned as servants
But for Fate/Zero and Stay Night, there's just the Heroics
9:30 if the master doesn't use a artefact to summon a specific servant
The Holy Grail will summon a random servant with similar personality with the master
So, the serial killer master got a serial killer Caster
10:00 he is using the power of Outer Gods (Lovecraft gods)
But just the Fate/Grand Order game shows more about these Outer Gods
The Servants hide her identity, they call only the name of her class. Arturia Pentragon is her name but her class is Saber
