“Prayer of St. Francis” (also known as Make Me A Channel of Your Peace) is a well-known hymn composed by Sebastian Temple. The Prayer of Saint Francis is a Catholic Christian prayer that is widely (but erroneously) attributed to the 13th-century saint Francis of Assisi. The prayer in its present form cannot be traced back further than 1912, when it was printed in Paris in French, in a small spiritual magazine called La Clochette (The Little Bell), published by La Ligue de la Sainte-Messe (The Holy Mass League). The author’s name was not given, although it may have been the founder of La Ligue, Fr. Esther Bouquerel.
Sebastian Temple (1928-1997) grew up in South Africa and later moved to London, where he worked for the BBC on news broadcasts relating to South Africa. Sebastian converted to Catholicism and spent much of his time composing music for worship.
One morning in February 1208, St. Francis was taking part in a Mass in the chapel of St. Mary of the Angels, near which he had by then built himself a hut. The Gospel of the day was the “Commissioning of the Twelve” from the Book of Matthew. The disciples were to go and proclaim that the Kingdom of God is at hand. Francis was inspired to devote himself to a life of poverty. Having obtained a coarse woolen tunic, the dress then worn by the poorest Umbrian peasants, he tied it around himself with a knotted rope and went about exhorting the people of the countryside to penance, brotherly love, and peace. St. Francis’s preaching to ordinary people was unusual as he had no license to do so.

My husband died on October 4, 2009 on the Feast Day of Saint Francis. He would have been a Veterinarian and lived life advocating for environmental preservation. He had a devotion to Saint Francis. I started playing the keyboard to a song that Phish was playing. Loving Cup. My mother who knew she was going to pass on from cancer heard me. She bought me a piano for my 21st birthday. She died 2 days later.
Before she died she sent me to a piano teacher for a few lessons to learn The prayer of St Francis. Something happen to where I wasn't allowed to play that at her funeral.
I am a Pisces, the sign of the fish. All my music I've ever played was stemmed from this song.
Her name was Patricia Weber. I started playing this song the day after St Patrick's Day around 12:01AM. Not until this moment did I realize life was happening for me. The prayer of St. Francis unlocked a gift I received from My ancestors and allowed me to be express all of our family history and I'm realizing they were just waiting for me to be born to eternal life. ❤
