Go Go Loser Ranger Review
Go Go Loser Ranger, which is also known as Go Go Reject Ranger by author Negi Haruba is a dark and subversive depiction of a world eerily similar to that of Power Rangers, in which the Rangers of that world battle monsters in order to save their earth.
However instead of presenting the conflict where the Rangers are the clean cut, heroic, moral beacons of light fighting the forces of evil, a number of different yet and conspiratorial questions are posed, such as:
What if the 13-year-long battle for the Earth’s survival between the invading monsters and the Ranger Forces was actually a farce?
If there ever was a battle between the Earth and the invading monsters, who won? And when?
Who survived the battle? And what happened to them afterwards?
And so, anime begins with the claim that all of the invading monster’s bosses and other major forces had been defeated by the Ranger Force.
So, with no other choice, the invading monster’s henchmen known as “Dusters” agree to a secret agreement with the Ranger Force in exchange for their continued survival.
Now tired of this charade, one monster henchman known simply as “D” decides to finally step up and try to make a change once and for all!
The story is intriguing and yet at times slightly unsettling, as it goes on to subvert many of the narrative beats, which we have come to expect from Power Ranger shows.
With that said it does attempt to keep a sense of fun and humour throughout (the music dance routine for the ending credits is a perfect example of this). But then at a drop of a hat changes narrative beats to action or suspense as it asks the view to follow monster henchman “D” and an interesting cast of characters as they fight to survive and find the truth.
