The book on "Snake's" face as he was asleep is the Bible(harkening to the Christianization of N. Europe..
For those who are interested in reading along with the manga this episode adapted the remainder of 57 (the last 13 pages), all of chapter 58 and the majority of chapter 59 (specifically 23/32 pages).
The passage of time isn't always super explicit in this arc, but the fact that the farms are harvesting their wheat crops now is meant to indicate it's now Autumn in Jutland (which is where modern-day Denmark is located), hence why Einar said he arrived in the Summer (it's been a couple months since Einar arrived at Ketil's farm).
Also something else to consider: the implications of what Arnheid being Ketil's "personal" attendant slave entails.
What's been neat about this arc's animation so far is how the focus in the character animation is now on the little details (or making scenes with numerous background characters less static) instead of action, creates distinct feel to the flow of the scenes compared to the previous season.

Don’t expect Thorfinn to pop off . He’s a full pacifist like his father was is completely done with fighting . Thorfinn isn’t a coward .
He’s in a world where the value of life is based on shedding blood and doesn’t want that anymore .

The fear of Dying and the Fear of Death are separate things to me. Some don't mind death but they don't want to die a certain way. Thorfinn lost all of that. Before, i think he wanted an honorable death in a duel. He don't fear death or how he dies.

This series depicts depression in a very real way. Thorfinn wants to die, he doesn't fear it, and in fact he welcomes it, not so much in a satisfying way to go out but more a way to just get it over with.
To anyone who has ever experienced depression or knows someone who has I'm sure there's something in Thorfinn's experience you can relate to. There's a point where talking it out is worthless. No therapy or programs can change reality. There's a point where kind words to "keep on going another day" or "don't do this, think about how it will hurt so and so" fall on deaf ears. That's a unfortunate but true reality for many right now.
As a manga reader the scene where thorfen said that I felt nothing but emptiness
"Everyone is afraid of Death". Pay more attention, this part obviously isn't to show a villain telling a lie, he's telling the truth, and it also shows Thorfinn is wrong, it's not because it's the Protagonist who's going to be perfect and has the answer to everything correctly. "Your life has value, be afraid of death"
fear can also cause alot of people to be very selfish,even a closest friend can turn on you because their afraid to die.

Thorfinn that you know is gone and he will not be coming back unfortunately… i mean i get it, the reason behind why the story is going that way but still most of us loved vinland saga for the violence part of it, and from cold blooded vikings to switch to pacifistic farmers and priests..its a shame, atleast in my opinion

It’s so sad seeing the current state of Thorfinn. It’s great that he took power from death by not fearing it, but at the same time he lost something very beautiful which is a will to live. It’s just sad man.
