not sure about the poisonings, but canute really did become king of england, so the vikings did fully conquer england during his reign
Canute is indeed a real historic character, Canute The Great, or Canute the II, i wouldn't recommend serching info about him because you could kind of spoil yourselves, but yeah, all of these historic events did happen; the assassination of his Father King Sven, and the sudden deaths of Ethereld and Edmund and his coronation in 1016 and such
the historical events are legit
Floki is basically a high level Bureaucrat(warrior-bureaucrat). Similar to how a new President can't just fire bureaucrats after being elected, a new King can't just fire types like Floki(due to pushback from noblemen). Plus he helped Canute's father conquer England.
Thorkell is a noble Dane. The man talking with Thorkell is called Asgeir . He is Thorkell’s second in command, he’s Anglo-Saxon, and he is Anti-christian. Remember the name.
King Sweyn was right in one thing: “Wearing the crown is a curse". Canute is now the new victim to that curse…
Also, yeah Yukimura said that his manga is a work of historical fiction, but a lot of the events and characters in Vinland Saga are based on real characters and events from this period of human history.
And also, im pretty sure that the scenes with Thorfinn and Einar are already 4 years in the "future", and Canute was already king. and this episode was just Canute's activities during these 4 years. we should probably go back to the present now so the forest is still there. 1018 is the year, so i think that season 2 has already been taking place in 1018 since episode 1 so 4 years after season 1, with Thorfinn and Einar, i mean.
The Soundtrack has been 80-90 % the same as S1 and all the new tracks have been amazing and hitting just like like S1. The composer Yutaka Yamada is so damn good at enriching a scene with his scores, while not completely taking over like you 2 mentioned. especially his softer tracks and his piano pieces are some of my favorites in recent years. I can't wait to hear some of his new additions for future moments/episodes.
Not sure if you remember, but the long mustache guy Gunnar is the brother of Ragnar who died in S1. We saw at the end of S1 how he was giving information to Sweyn and Askeladd, Canute and the rest were very aware of that. Its in genreal very interesting to hear and see the reactions of Gunnar/Floki to THIS Canute, with their disposition to Canute at the end of S1
Yes, this actually happened. Amazing isn't it? I love being White.
This episode was just Canute flexing and i love it
Gunnar is Ragnar's biological brother, that's why he bares physical resemblance(bald head and whatnot).
I feel like the Tywin analgy does not really work… whatever rationalisation Tywin mentioned to Tyrion didn't mean anything because what he was saying to him was not what had actually happened: thousands died at the RW, since the Freys murdered the Stark soldiers too.
Canute :"Light it"
the cats: LETS FUCKING GOOOO 17:29
In the manga Chapter 62 Page 66 and 67 is a double spread (features this episode) some of my favorite art from the manga. This episode covered Chapters 61 and 62. I'm excited for the next one. Also there is a line at the end of Ch. 62 that didn't make the episode, its worth looking at, although it could be brought up later (I doubt it though) (Ill sum up the line below) (Slight spoilers possibly)
In 1017 Eadric was put to death (after helping Canute, he still gets killed, I feel bad for him just wanted to save Mercia)
the cats had my attention xD
Canute really just pulled the old if I can’t have it no one can.
watching the cats play in the back was great lol.
Cnut, or Canute, was a real person. His characterization in the series is fairly different from the historical picture though. Although it's worth noting he does generally have a historical reputation of being quite fair… for a king.
8:29 Battle Shonen fans when they watch a good show not centered around pointless fighting

The cats having mortal combat in the back is oddly fitting.
Geld means money in german. So what danegeld means is literaly danemoney. So yeah… they are trying to give canute danish money
Danegeld is the method of bribing the Vikings off so that they don’t raid their land
Ain’t the best explanation but gets the job done lmao
i'm sorry the cats distracted me
but I'm sure the reaction was awesome!
Canute on full demon time
I don't know much about the history of vikings and the english invasion, but I have to assume shoving 'Dane' in front of things wasn't too uncommon considering the Danish territory was named 'Danelaw'.
Cats 😺 in background 😂
11:38 I think to be more precise he says "How cheap"
It's fire from another bonfires. Canute even said 'IMAGINE IT, Mercia reduced to ash' it's just like him giving a picture what it will be going to war with him. He also said 'IF I WILL IT' so he didn't really burned Mercia.
cats in the back were all i watched
