Trigun Stampede is the newest entry in the Trigun ethos, however the new anime has the trigun fanbase split. Is this new trigun anime a worthy piece to complement the entirety of the franchise? Or is it a “too madern CGI nightmare?” let’s find out.

I have a lot of respect for well-made 3D animation. Studio Orange obviously has a lot of skill and passion behind it. But it still gives me a headache to try to watch. I've seen two episodes and while it's very pretty, I don't like the flapping mouths and I still get eye pain watching it.
Those three mentioned space westerns are all SO different.
Each is unique. Loved all of them, but have never thought to compare them….. one is a gang style story, one is a space chase for daddy’s memory getting lucky along way, and one is about a lonesome guy endlessly trying to cope and failing because of what he is.
I’d compare cowboy bebop more to say gangsta, Trigun to say dessert punk, and maybe outlaw Star to space adventure cobra which is my all time fav!:)
Dorohedoro is such a freakin’ awesome anime. Ugh! I love it:)
How about No Guns Life? And say Kekkai sensen?
Personally I want a new even more full on urotsukidoji;)~ hahahahhaa…….
I disagree completely. The CGI is terrible. CGI can be charming if done right but the animation here looks worse than most CGI from 20 years ago. It looks like a PS1 cut scene. As for the story, comparing it to the spider-verse is ridiculous. It hasn't been stated canonically that it takes place in another universe. This is just a studio trying to attract younger people to anime by making it darker and shitting on our childhood. It's the same with Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Universe, Star Trek Discovery/Picard. Many of the original elements still exist but they've been bastardized.
My favorite parts of the original anime were the more serious episodes, so I'm loving this new version. Nonetheless, I'm afraid that it won't have another season because I see almost nobody talking about it and I don't see it trending. As you said, lots of people dismissed it from the start without even watching it. I hope the show gets more popular from worth of mouth.
I enjoyed both.
Vash is a good story & entertaining anime.
Trigun is a good story & entertaining anime.
I really enjoy this reimagining of Trigun and the 3D animation is amazing. I love the original anime and art style, and I also love the new anime and art design. I understand if someone doesn’t like the new take, but I strongly suggest watching the anime without comparing it to the original. Just take it in as a new story. That’s just my thoughts.
Conclusion – just more adult > extremely adult stuff. Even chainsaw man was dragon ball Z/Naruto/one piece level for me….. try golden kamuy all you softies out there!;)~
Or a Couple more amazing anime – Drifters, Revenger, Onihei. Check them out if don’t know them. I feel understanding anime has so many layers to it. You can always learn more:).
I will get so pissed if stamped don't get another season. I watched the old anime when I was a kid and again about two years ago. And I love it. I like Cowboy bebop and outlaw Star more, but trigun is also amazing. But I'm loving Stamped. I like how its own thing and not the same. There is no reason to make the same if it already exist. Fanboys and fandoms are cancer.
Even though the pacing is a little odd I'm still enjoying stampede since I feel like it's a good retelling of the story in its own way
The new Trigun is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥I was skeptical but man I enjoy it! I was not expecting the violence and tonal shift. Watch it!
I don't understand why this sentiment is so hard to wrap your head around for some people. CGI isn't BAD, is just not the SAME, its a completely different artform. its not the anime I grew to love as a child the very first time I laid eyes on it. with no context for years after that of where or what it came from and why it was different from Ren and Stimpy. it feels like they are replacing the shit I fell in love with. and now they are doing it with the ip that were Cornerstones of what Peak animation looks like, Trigun and Ghost in the Shell, next we will get a CG Akira, they fucked it up with Live action Cowboy bebop. it doesn't only matter if the show is good, the animation of these classics are baked into what fundamentally made them classics. Hell I love the anime Golden Boy but if it were live action or CGI I wouldn't have given it a second glance… hell if it were even animated like modern anime, I probably wouldn't love it like I do now. Hell i dont think ive seen a Disnney animated movie since they stopped making 2d animation… Im just not as drawn in… Pun not intended
I fucking hate this show. It's the DMC of anime. People love to defend thi gs when. Fandom decides they don't like it it. Well being a contraian doesnt make a bad show good and my god this design is awful. Like a shitty tic tok version of vash.
I just need to know that it's good
I'm one of the grumpy person you talking about, so I probably will never watch the new Trigun no matter how good it's. By the way this is my perspective and no one needs to agree with it and even I know this perspective is soo elitist, close minded, wrong, jaded, etc…
About the CGI: It's look good especially with character expression, movement, action and camera but it's still will be far better if it's hand drawn(even with just decent animation and no camera movement) also no matter how good it's the fabric clothes still look off to me.
Art design and atmosphere: This is probably the main thing why I will not watch it, The changes is too much and I don't believe they can replicate it even after the "July incident" happened in the future. Trigun to me is soo much tie to 90s anime style that it's nearly impossible that the new Tigun can hope to replicate it and right now it's not and not even close. By the way, I don't care what the future holds but right now the new Trigun do not have the art design and atmosphere of the old Trigun then it's not Trigun to me. I love the 90s anime with the bad animation in all.
The only way I'll watch the anime if the title and the names is not related to Trigun. Without the same art, animation and atmosphere it's like a new anime altogether.
Look, I understand why they want to remake Trigun in these style, I know it's good, I probably would like it if I watch it but the old jaded close minded in me just can't hope but compare and dislike it. I'll only watch CGI anime if it look like "Lupin III: The First"(yes, I'm petty like that)
We are in th3 twilight zone..
The Last of Us adaptation is good.
While Trigun Stampede is ass…😅
Let me save some time lol. No it’s not.
Hope this show finds its audience, because I'm definitely not it. The art style just turns me off.
I've been loving Stampede. The CGI is actually incredible. It's obviously not as suited to a show like this as something like Land of the Lustrous, but it's just absolutely fantastic. Between the little expressions and movements, it just feels like it really is possible to make an anime entirely in CG and not have it just be a way to save production money. And that's not even getting in to the fact that this seeming prequel is going to give us way more context on Vash and friends simply by showing us how they were before July and how they will be after it.
Also Roberto's last name is DeNiro and that's funny to me.
It may not be trending on crunchy roll because I've seen alot of people say they're waiting for the dub to check it out
I just finished reading the manga, and Stampede simply doesn't feel anything like it. No idea where people are taking that idea from.
It might take some plot elements from it, but ,the action, the style, the 'feel' doesn't feel anything like it.
I didn't even realize July was on the map oh god oh god oh god oh god…
Oh this is exciting
As long as the original is still accessible I don't really care. It's not for me, but that's alright, there's plenty of backlog to go through anyway.
It’s so visually unpleasing. There’s plenty of modern anime that look great I don’t why they made the decision to go with this art style.
I've been watching the new show, it a lot heavier but it's not bad
For years Trigun has been amongst my favorite anime of all time, basically sharing 3rd place with Cowboy Bebop in my top 3, and though I was kinda skeptical at first, because it wouldn't be what I wanted it to be(obviously people wanted the "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Treatment"), but with each new trailers getting released in 2022 I got more and more excited(it also helped that I already saw Beastars, so I knew I could trust Studio Orange when it comes to creating great anime), and I even finally read the manga last year, and that quickly became my favorite manga I've read so far. And though things are different, I absolutely love Trigun Stampede so far, and out of the ones I am watching it totally is my favorite title of this season. My only skepticism may be that they rush things to much and this all will be a 12-episode, 1-season story. Just because outside of Beastars, Orange never made anime with more than 1 season. But I do hope that there will be more seasons, with season 1 having its climax with the July incident, followed up by a time skip at the beginning of season 2.
Btw. since you mention American Comic Books, it should also be noted that Tatsuhiro Nightow himself is a huge fan of western comic books, so this idea of him being open to the idea of retelling stories like this, shouldn't shock anyone. It might be unusual to anime/manga, but it makes perfect sense for a Nightow IP to get this treatment. He even went so far, as made the Studio Orange crew watch a bunch of Marvel movies before they started working on Trigun Stampede. Yet a bunch of Trigun fanboys got mad at potential Marvel influences, yet for how much they seem to care about the old Trigun, they seemed to have little to no care about the guy who created it.
Haven’t consumed anything TRIGUN apart from the movie at the viewing party. Can’t say I left interested in more TRIGUN. Didn’t get any marketing for stampede, but you guys have convinced me to give the new show a try. You can really see the effort Orange put in. Sue me but i like the look of zoomer Vash lol
The initial videos they put out were Vash in happy or cool mode, which is his public persona while he struggles with trauma. It makes sense that the media put out for his story would be equally obfuscating…fair, I'll check it out!
I honestly prefer the new version a lot more. It’s not as cringey as the old one. The humor fits way better and the story is a lot darker.
The CGI animation has grown on me in the last few years. Especially when implemented right. Between Arcane, Vash and a few others. It's the color and love put into it that makes it look good.
The CGI looks brilliantly modern. Vash being one of my most favourite fictional characters ever. I love this new approach. And hope your theory is true of it being a prequel. Makes sense and expands the story greatly.
I didn't watch the OG trigun, but I love Trigun Stampede, Orange Studio outdid themselves in it, it's one of the best anime in this season, if not the best, at the same level as Vinland Saga.
I will be honest, I was half bored when the first two episodes came out. I was still in the mind set of the old anime so the changes felt a bit weird but held on. Episode 3 came around and I was integrated and saw a possible future for this new version of Trigun. I loved the scenes between Knives and Vash , it felt fresh end new but still something I thought befitting Trigun. I have not read the manga even and I think that may be an advantage. I get new information mixed with the old knowledge from the anime which makes me want to watch the hole series at the very least, then make the judgement if it’s a good oration of Trigun. Give a chance I say! It might surprise you more then you think!
Well with the christening approval of Bonsai Pop I'll give this anime a shot. It wasn't even on my radar.
Huge fan of the original but the new series is fantastic. I think only Wolfwood hasn’t quite landed for me yet and I think it’s because he’s in it too early and overlaps a lot with Roberto who gets more focus.
Roberto though is a very marked man and I’d put down a solid wager that Vash is going to carry the responsibility for his death in July for a long long time.
Stampede's worst sin is excluding Milly, as far as I'm concerned. But I feel it's still a forgivable one. I didn't think I'd like this new take, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Edit: Guess I'm far from the only one salty about our big, sweet girl's absence.
Nope
Not in the way with Vash
I'm frustrated that HE DOES NOT FIGHT AT ALL he has nothing of noteworthy Action Scenes and they're given all the Wolfwood compared to the OGs where the start with him being Badass
His Ideals are NOT challenged and he feels he barely as any internal
He feels more like an Idiot and incompetent not being prepared with any Bullets leading to no gunfights
I hadn't considered actually getting to see the July incident happen before now and my hype around this anime just increased even more. Only a few episodes in but I agree with your take that while it's different it does still feel like Trigun
oh my gosh, thanks for much for this video. Ive only been in the Trigun fandom since Stampede came out, and I love it and the og anime to bits, both for very different reasons. And it just feels so unfair to Stampede of how many people treat it. Comparing it to the og is one thing, but immediately writing it off because it's not the same is just plain unfair.
yo…..y vash look like jake paul now 😐
When i saw the trailer of the new Trigun i re watch on Chrunchy the 90s anime (i saw it around on 99) and it was good but mainly the story – the animation and the pacing and vash being a bit ecchi just didnt work for me basicly i went with hopes to see the great anime i had in my mind and found it hasnt aged that well. So far Trigun Stampede has great animation and the character building seems its taking its time to build and i think that it gona be great – tho the numbers on crunchy are low My Hero Academia have like 25k and Vash 5k :v
I'm of the old group, but I wish I could watch with the new group. It just the changes too much my brain can't get over it.
It's really heartening to see all of the love and positive comments about the show.
It’s not trigun. Animation style sucks.
Only issue I have is the grave crime that is Milly Thompson's absence.
Yeah man i walked in expecting to be a bit underwhelmed but its very good even with its deferences. Vash may be a twink now but everyone else are just standup charscters
This anime is worth it.
Alright I'll give it a try now. Vash used to hide how sad he really felt. I love when he found some peace.
I think Trigun fans should just take a breather and appreciate the fact this I.P. is receiving S tier production via Orange Studio and while their making changes to the manga’s timeline, it could lead to the events established later on to have more weight and impact, potentially resulting in an S tier adaptation.
