The episode title…. An empty man was very fitting for this episode; like you can feel Thorffin feeling a sense of emptiness when discussing about his past of being a warrior! I’m glad he’s opening up to Enair more! I can appreciate the slow pacing of this series, makes me appreciate the story more

I'm not gonna lie this whole season and especially this episode I was heated but finally thorfin and einar fighting back 😂

God I can't wait for next week's episode

11:03 "i was destroying and I was taking, so I have no right" which I get, but you do have a right. Except Thorfinn's unknowingly dragged down by his past, the guilt and regret etc, and that's because, like Einar said, he hadnt dealt with it yet. There's no resolution or closure. Literally an open wound still bleeding and festering.
And that thing that was so important, imo, is a caring and loving family, his dad and what he taught Thorfinn, plus his mom and sister. He's gone on for over 10 years Without Love (title of ending theme is perfect) that he forgot everything, what love is, what loving and being loved meant, everything. Once his shallow hatred filled purpose of living was gone, he's all hollowed out, lost and empty.
MaGOATo Yukimura deserves every single praise he gets for his insane storytelling skills. 👏👏👏

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 68 to 69.

In regards to the passage of time (the manga is sometimes more explicit about the dates) during this episode it’s supposed to be winter now and Lent soon (as Sverkel indicated), so it’s probably meant to be around February-March of 1016, i.e. another few months have passed since the previous episode.

A little bit of trivia, the very opening scene of the episode (where Thorfinn is staring at a child version of Einar) is an anime original addition/scene. And to be clear, child Einar in Thorfinn’s dream is just symbolic of the types of people Thorfinn used to pillage and raid as a Viking, as Thorfinn wasn’t directly involved in either of the times Einar’s village was raided in the past (the first time was done by English soldiers, and by the second time Thorfinn had already been sold into slavery as punishment for attacking Canute).

Thorfinn didn’t directly kill the woman he was seeing in his dreams, but he had been briefly cared by her before Thorfinn played a key role in allowing Askeladd’s band to raid and pillage her village.

They cut out Thorfinn’s line “First, be calm. Nothing good comes from revenge” line when they discovered their wheat was destroyed- but other than that kino episode 👌

“ If you’re empty anything can fit inside you”
One of my favorite quotes in the series

U know whats crazy? People eveb today in America will come up with that "Lost Cause" bullshit and say the American Civil War wasn't about slavery because "only rich guys had slaves and most of the poor southerners never had slaves" but that ONE Line from the hating-ass retainer said it all:

These people, even those without slaves, saw themselves as superior to slaves and believed that slavery must be maintained to keep the social system intact. Now imagine this attitude times 1,000. The Antebellum South's economy and social fabric had slavery at its core, and even poor Whites who would never have a slave of their own valued their supposed superiority enough to die defending such fucked up institution.

Spoiler Alert for manga readers

Next episode is the return of the GOAT.

I dont know if you guys saw it, there is a 3 minutes short clip in the Mappa youtube channel that is like a ep 6.5 with Thorfinn's dream sequence that you see at the beginning of this episode.

It doesnt add any major stuff but the mangaka gave it his seal of approval
