The issue with having "proof" of the farmhands' damage is that even if they did have it, it wouldn't really have changed anything. They have a contract with Ketil, they must harvest enough to pay the price he bought them for, Einar's point was that once the wheat was gone and the soil had lost its nutrients, they should have waited until they had taken out another big part of the forest (and what they did took them already a LOT of time) to use that ground for farming, borrowing more seeds and making the price they must pay him even higher. It's really cruel, horrible and it was done out of a pure evil mindset from the farmhands. There's a lot to be said about this episode, from Thorfinn aknowledging the story of his life and what happened between him, Thors and Askeladd, him not hating Askeladd anymore, the Old Master's "you can learn new things step by step since you are empty" and Thorfinn's punch, but those all come in a second place.
Thorfinn forgot something, something very important that was built up ever since the very first episode…and god the payoff will be amazing

The plant analogy was great. As someone who loves gardening, watching the process of growth the plant goes through is one of the most enjoyable and touching experiences I've had. I related a lot to the scene where Thorfinn was intrigued at how feeble the plants looked when they were starting to grow, it's the same thing when you stop to thing how something so big like a plant or a tree can come from such a small and delicate beginning. I've enjoyed the little bits of growth for Thorfinn just as much as the action scenes last season.

This episode reminded me of how much I hate when people sprint or jump on my wheat. My villagers cannot re till the ground, so I have to do it. I sometimes contemplate filling their storage rooms with lava and breaking all their chests.
This was such a good episode and it's beautiful to see how far Einar & Thorfinn's friendship has developed… he's talking about his nightmares, past & PTSD and asking all the right reflective questions.
Thorfinn being empty, it's kinda the case of feeding the right wolf: learning to love & appreciate people/things (in S1 they spoke about how nature an it's cycle is love in abundance, because the beauty is there for everyone to see slave/master, rich/poor).

What Einar says, "If they like you, you become bound to them. If they hate you, they treat you like this." is exactly the discrimination that the priest, Willibald was talking about in season 1 when he told Canute about the meaning of love. True love is selfless as well as about giving to others. If a person is being nice to one person and not others, then that's discrimination (positive). If a person favors someone in order to gain something, then that's also not what love is.

It's not that Thorfinn only hated Askeladd. He actually grew to love him as his 2nd father too. It was 11 years after all. That just makes it even sadder. What an amazing & sad episode.
I feel like thorffin punch is a step back in thorffin's evolution. A true warrior doesn't need to hurt nobody. I think that's why after the punch he sees his father and the old lady. Like they're deceived on him

12:20 – 17:10 has to be my favorite segment of the video wowwwwww👏🏾 You made some powerful statements when you mentioned our society not understanding the struggle and the value of life really made me think about my perspective on life. Like you mentioned…we're so disconnected from our roots that we don't know how to get our hands dirty and learn the value of life. Where humanity as a WHOLE came from! I love this show and manga so much and a lot of people place it high on their lists because all of the action from the last season but in my opinion the best moments in this show are in episodes like this. Old man Ketil telling Thorfinn to 'Work. Your hands aren't moving.' and that's its better to be an empty man really hit home for me. I'm at a crossroads of my own and even though I'm not enslaved or as tormented as Thorfinn & Einar, the messages still apply.
I felt a lot of things this episode, so many feelings, but what hurted me the most was that we followed Thorfinn and Einar grow this farm and dream about it, and make analogies while working, and it helped Thorfinn grow so much as a person.
this author really amazes me this is not just talent, is hard work and research, so much love is being put to reform the MC, i'm very curious wher Vinland Saga will take us.
