The action Einar and Thorfinn took is wrong and right at the same time. Wrong in the sense that they might get into more trouble but right in the sense that he shouldn't be taking that kind of disrespect just because they are slaves.

This episode definitely followed the manga.
The one punch that Thorfinn gave to the farmhand was cool.
The next episode is gonna be great.

When the staff list for this episode includes the director of the final episode of season one and the storyboarder for Demon Slayer and the 90s classic Ninja Scroll you know you're in for some Farmland Saga greatness.
The team behind this anime really are giving it their all in every aspect of the production. Having a seinen manga series given so much respect is truly a thing to behold. Not all the time but too often seinen series get the bare bones, at best, treatment (cries in Berserk 2016 and Kingdom seasons 1 and 2).
No spoilers, but I'm beyond excited for next week's episode. Been waiting the whole season for it.
I hoped for the punch and got it. Probably won't end well but whatever. Those retainers had enough chances to not be scum for once.
The farmhands have no lands so they have to work for Ketil to live. Like Einer said in an earlier episode "They are half slave themselves". That's why they continue to harass the slaves in an attempt to make themselves feel powerful, without gaining anything at all.

Love this episode. I like the old man. If you’re empty, then you can fit anything inside you. Such inspiring words. Of course I hated the wheat field being ruined. But loved the karma delivered by Thorfinn. Anyways looking forward to next episode! X3
Einar continues to be a great bro for Thorfinn. This old man giving Thorfinn a new purpose to find something to fill his emptiness. That punch felt completely satisfying.
thorfinn dreams are of remorse and regret. The wreakage of your past.
Those Retainers were jealous of Thorfin and Einar. They them self were lazy and did not do their job properly. This was long time coming for them but now our boys are trouble and a noose probably awaits them if things are not cleared up or they have to go on the run. But man this season so far has been a goat and really taking things to the next level.
Seeing the young wheat destroyed made me more angry than character deaths in some other animes.
You know your writing is masterpiece when it made people care more for a field than some human characters in other work.
Not me crying the entire episode 😭 and the next to come is an absolute bang or emotional catharsis.
You can hate Thorfin as much Einar does when he gives the speech he is no diferent form the farmers so he doesn't deserve to be anger because is a great reflection, but also you can love Thorfin on how he does make that villager eat his next bowl of wheat with a straw.
Tone of the series could be les war oriented, but it's a great and deep thought on life, love this season.
You know, shit‘s getting serious when he actually start to get Thorfinn‘s inner monologue. Him opening up to Einar more and more about his past step by step makes me feel some kind of unidentifiable fuzzy warm feeling in the pit of my stomach, and for some reason it managed to even make me tear up here. honestly, every conversation between the two this episode is like that, aaah.
„Without my hatred, without my revenge, I’m empty.“ precisely the reason why I didn’t very much like Thorfinn in season 1 gets turned on its head here and used for the growth and new motivation of his character . That’s what I call masterful writing.
From Farmland Saga to Fishing Saga. I love how Sverkel treats them like humans, and not (metaphorically) spit on them like the retainers do. Makes for such powerful moments as the one on the beach.
Gonna be honest here, the crushed wheat and Thorfinn and Einar‘s argument after broke me so much I had to cope by continuously making blind jokes targeted at Pater (like when he said „none of you saw it happen?“ I was like „and neither did you haha!“ or „I see“ – „no you don’t“). I’m sorry Pater, that wasn’t on purpose.
Fuck the retainers, preferably with their own gardening and farming instruments, up their butt.
Man, this entire episode was just fucking painful. Can I now officially consider myself a masochist after thinking this was probably the best episode I’ve watched this year so far or is it still to early? Like, I did not expect to watch an episode THIS good today.
Thorfinn getting angry not for himself, but for someone else for probably the first time in his life. That was such a satisfying punch.
When Thorfinn said "I'm empty" the first time with the full white background I got goosebumps . Such a good scene. Also are retainers and bodyguards from the same faction per say, like are those ppl Snake's men cuz if they are , arent they in big trouble ? but if they aren't then yeah it might suck rly hard for our boys.
That punch and the cracked jaw of the retainer……I was yelling yes and no at the same time.😂
When I was reading the manga, this was pretty much where Vinland Saga ascended from a amazing series to a masterpiece for me. Not even a particular moment in this episode, but just small scenes like Thorfinn and Einar convo, or the fishing scene.
The character work in this series is phenomenal. There wasn't anything particularly sad in this episode but the first half had me on the verge of tears the whole time. Thorfinn's emotions are so visceral and they come across with authenticity and realism.
We aren't given a high intensity moment that results in an epiphany for our main character, but rather you are seeing real time development of the character.
I hope this anime continues long into the future because the story is fantastic and there are some moments in the manga I am dying to see animated and scored musically (the bread moment – IYKYK).
I absolutely love the Christian symbolism of this episode. Thorfinn and Einar go fishing, like the Apostles before their calling, while listening to Sverkel and preparing for Lent.
Thorfinn's quest for rebirth and redemption after committing so many atrocities can be analogous to Saul's transformation to Paul.
Beyond that, Sverkil's words, the idea that an empty man is the best type of man for a rebirth, are great. In the end, despite the horrors that he inflicted upon people, Thorfinn has to come to terms with his past and let go of his hate to rebuild himself. If anything, those words echo Askeladd's dying plea to Thorfinn, "Leave this boring place, become a true Warrior, son of Thors."

This was such a powerful and emotional episode. From his nightmares and him feeling like an empty shell of a guy not having a goal in life anymore since the person who he hated and wanted to kill, died by another person's hands. He didn't know what to do and felt like even if he died it wouldn't make a difference to anyone. Best grandpa had the best advice for him… If you feel empty then you got the most potential to be reborn and fill it up with the things you learn.
The retainers definitely deserved what was coming to them. When I saw them crops destroyed I was like throw that axe at their head when you see them.
And Thorfinn surprisingly made the first punch and broke the man's jaw… I don't think it's just his jaw that was broken but he deserved that and now the rest want a piece of the pie as the gang up on Einar. I'm rooting for Thorfinn and Einar in this situation to teach them a lesson and I hope that the guy who's helping them finds something that would bring those dirty scumbags to justice but I'm not holding my breath. If we have learned anything from this series it's that this world is cruel and when you expect something, another thing happens. Nevertheless this episode was peak like every other episode this season and I can't wait for the next one.

Thorfinn happens to not be a drunk.
Also, I can't shake how much Thorfinn looks like a younger Askladd. I believe that while Thorfin hated Askladd to his core, Askladd started to care for Thorfinn. When Askladd died, he tried to protect Thorfin, even told him to be a true warrior like his father. Thorfin is scared of becoming like him again, governed by hate. He's empty because in the end he cared for Askladd in his own way.
What makes the situation totally screwed is that the retainers can basically ruin their crops again next season, putting Einer and Thorfinn in even more debt. That knowledge, the fact that the girl he likes can't leave, plus all of his family is dead, pretty much sent Einer in a rage. I'm interested in seeing how the master handles this case, know knowing his true nature.

Have you seen 6.5 of Vinland Saga of season two on the YouTube channel of those involved with making season 2? I was wondering cause as soon as I saw that YouTube video and then in this episode seeing how they cleverly make a call back and continuation to 6.5 was so chilling but genius at the same time. I was going through various mixed emotions of crying and more. Great epsiode as always. Truly some great fore-showing to come with Thorfinn's soon to be realization of what his fathers been saying to him all along and the nightmare /hell dream scape part we are going to get more of in the next epsiode. Also did anyone catch when we saw a silhouette of Askeladd's ghost in the forest of this epsiode? Dude I literally was so blown away to the level of detail put into every scene, dialog, music, emotions and everything this season of Vinland Saga.

thorfinn finally snaps. the opening dream sequence is disturbing. people may complain its slow but this show is realistic. its called character development.so im guessing thorfin is gonna dream about askeladd and the old lady in the next episode. cant wait 🐱

This was a heartbreaking episode, but I was grateful to see the resurgence of Thorfinn's inner strength.
I was also impressed he acknowledged he'd forgiven Askeladd. I'm hoping they'll explore that dynamic later, considering Thorfinn spent more of his life with him than his own family… it's deep.
Definitely a ridiculously bad move for Einar and Thorfin to lay hands on the retainers. In any situation they would experience horrendous death. Given their importance to this plot, we’ll see how they get out of this one.
