This episode is incredible. Peakland saga

Now Thorfinn needs to realize that fighting to protect is ok

I think the difference between Thorfinn and Eren is that when Thorfinn said "even my hands are about to give out" (as he was about to fall in that pit of hatred and despair), that Thorfinn was able to get back up and had the will to climb, whereas Eren just couldn't hold on to the sheer weight of it all and finally fell in the one hour episode we saw previously. To add to this EVEN THE ENDING, "there is no FREEDOM WITHOUT LOVE!"

Also, the paused scene at the end is the manga cover art if i remember correctly, thus the pause

Thorfinn is genuinely one of the greatest characters in any manga, it's so hard to have the mc be the best character of their series yet Yukimura managed to do that perfectly

No 2023.03.06 - 9:04 pm

Thorfinn > eren

Shu 2023.03.06 - 9:07 pm

To answer to Sotoss's remark here too, i think that will be the battle moving forward, Thorfinn's true fight. We will now see how a true warrior fights, and what battles does a true warrior fight.

Daniel1511 2023.03.06 - 9:08 pm

I think maybe Thorfinn punched that guy when he realized Einar was about to because he didn't want Einar to experience the pain of committing a violent act and lose his innocence, so he made the decision to punch him before Einar was able to. Ultimately he couldn't prevent Einar from engaging in that fight as the single punch didn't scare off their attackers, but at least he tried.

i wish berserk got a good anime adaptation for the whole story, it would be great seeing your thoughts on it especially when talking about complete characters (i.E. Eren vs Thorfinn). Id still recommend the manga, not as content but for enjoyment

Syed Faisal Kamran 2023.03.06 - 9:17 pm

I am proud of Thorfinn, but I can't say the same about Eren. Eren is such an amazing character, but Eren would've killed me for no reason at all even though I love him as a character.😂 The idea of if I have power I will kill the whole world because there are people who will be potential threat is a flawed personality of Eren. He would've took control of all the military powers in the world with the amount of power he had and find different ways after that. He just was looking for excuses to use violence for voilence.

#Animaechan, you're so sweet. Thank you so much for uploading this awesome anime reaction. I love your anime content so much because it's so amazing, and I enjoy watching your reactions to different anime series.

" A true warrior doesn't need a weapon to fight " – Thors

Always love this both this Series and your reactions .

30:01 idk why regarding this part but the line "walk like them until they must walk like you" came to mind.

I was legit sobbing throughout the whole episode. What is wrong with me?! This was f-ing BEAUTIFUL!

What a freaking episode!!!👏🏾20:20 is the same debate I was having with someone I know about Eren:

Coming to this show after watching the latest AOT is crazy because in a way the messages are so similar but done in completely different ways. Eren and Thorfinn both have trauma and in some kind of deep seated trauma but in the case of Eren, he is willing to kill as many men, women, and children to put his people on top. Thorfinn was the same way in the first season. All he cared about was the vengeance he sought for his father, he also didn't care about who or how many he killed in that process! The difference is how these characters handle the death/destruction they've caused that resonates the most with me. Eren feels some form of regret as we saw in the latest episode where he kept apologizing to the child for what he was about to do his country. But guess what….Eren kept going with no intention to stop! Whether his friends drop dead or not. Thorfinn loses his sole purpose in living when Askeladd is killed by another man & we see this child grow into an empty shell because of it. Thorfinn's promise to never hurt anyone again is almost the exact opposite of Eren. Forgiving not only your enemies for the pain they've caused but yourself for what you've allowed yourself to become. By no means does that make him a weak person, I honestly thinks it makes him stronger especially when you realize Thorfinn has the skill to kill hundreds of men but is actively pacifying that urge. "You have no enemies." Eren and Thorfinn are on the same road but heading in opposite directions yet somehow the authors are conveying such similar messages. (if that makes any sense lollll)

goodguylegy 2023.03.06 - 9:39 pm

Loved your rant about eren 😂. I knew you were gonna talk about him before you even began. Even though eren is my favourite character, I absolutely agree with everything u say about him in all your aot reactions. His own fans misunderstand his character so much and think he is this "chad" bla bla when there's not a single chad thing about him. He is just a tragic and evil person in nature. Eren's evil in nature as we saw through his dialogues in the new episode but his fans won't admit that because they r afraid to admit their hero being evil. I love eren's character and he is my favourite character but i dont view him or love him for the same reasons some of his other fans do.

Thorfinn and eren are both fundamentally somewhat similar but their character journeys are completely different which is mainly due to the nature of the universe of their respective series.

One is someone who feels guilty for the crimes he is GOING to commit and cries down apologising to his victims (eren)

And the other is someone who cries and apologises to his victims for the crimes he has ALREADY committed (thorfinn)

Also, i dont know if you knew this but the authors of Aot and vinland saga are both real life friends. They have both taken inspiration and praised each other's works all the time. Infact, Kenny in aot is a character that was inspired by askeladd from vinland. You must remember the "everyone is a slave to something" concept from both the series. Both authors have done many interviews together. Yukimura (vinland author) often tweets talking about aot on twitter, he was very excited when he saw the trailer drop for aot s4 part 3. They r both 2 of my favourite authors and its amazing that they r both friends

Ash 2023.03.06 - 9:39 pm

Oh my god, the Eren rant was hilarious 😂

Ash 2023.03.06 - 9:44 pm

The farmer did deserve the punch, but the reason it was wrong, at least in Thorfinn's eyes, was because it was thrown in pure anger. The punch did not protect anyone, it did not save anyone. It did not fix anything and it only started more violence (which realistically could have resulted in punishment or severe injury)

gin hill 2023.03.06 - 10:03 pm

I think Thorfin punching that guy was a regress because the guy was just taunting them and didnt start any physical violence. So Thorfinn cannot legally claim self defence there, he was just not big enough to ignore the taunts. But thats understandable given the PTSD and the emptiness he felt.

Ciri Разборы 2023.03.06 - 10:07 pm

Amazing episode, amazing season.

Raeger Rayer 2023.03.06 - 10:36 pm

I think your interpretation about sums it up. It's not about absolutely never hitting anyone ever again under any circumstances. It's about not relying on violence as a solution, unless it's truly the last resort. Comparing it to Eren again, and SPOILERS FOR THOSE NOT CAUGHT UP WITH ATTACK ON TITAN DON'T READ Eren gave up and chose to do the Rumbling saying there was no other choice because of the future he saw, and also personally I think even if he didn't have future vision he would have wanted to do it because of his nature to wipe out his enemies. But he didn't talk with his allies. He didn't try and create a rebeliious force within marley that maybe could have done something with his power along with his allies. He didn't try check up on the other nations in the world to see if maybe they would want some mutually beneficial relationship that could lead to them being allies with each other and maybe change the world in the long run. I'm not saying any of the options I proposed would have work, but he literally chose the most hateful "fuck you all" option under the weight of the future that he saw and his distorted desire to achieve freedom. He's a sad character who never grows, because in his own words, "I am who I've always been from the moment I was born" so ironically enough, he can't free himself from his own desire to wipe out his enemies.

I think Thorfinn wants to exhaust all other options before resorting to violence. He wants more certainty that no other way will work before resigning to it, instead of just naturally resorting to it like many people would in a kill or be killed kind of world, through no fault of their own. This is why it's his own personal, true battle. I don't think his growth is over yet. We're most likely going to see his oath get challenged and see how he reacts to that, what kind of compromises he makes, and whether or not he gets dangerously close to breaking it. Honestly my favourite character journey in all of fiction

Cola Dad 2023.03.06 - 10:43 pm

I think the main difference as to why Eren is written the way he is differently to Thorfinn, is that AoT is meant to be more of a tragic showing of human nature, while Vinland Saga is meant to be a more traditional Hero's journey, where Thorfinn does some shit, and grows from his mistakes. I also think the whole stories structure, endgame and scale are completely incomparable, as one is a political and apocalyptic drama, while another is a character exploration drama. Botha explore philosophical ideas and might even have similar characteristics, especially when it comes to revenge and childhood trauma, but their purpose is different. Of course, there are the Eren dickriders that just love him for the whole edgelord fest, as well as Eren dick-biters (haters) that despise him for the same reasons and tack on many others, generalizing it as ''bAd ChaRaCteR''. Thorfinn has had similar reactions, especially when this arc was happening in the manga. Thing is Vinland is nowhere near as popular and mainstream as AoT so, proportionally, the haters arent nearly as loud. My point is, to summarize, that the difference between Eren and Throfinn is that their were written with a completely different purpose, scale and philosophy behind them. To put it simply, while one became a Martyr, another grew to be a Hero. (Writing wise, not story role)

ibrahem 2023.03.06 - 10:47 pm

I agree with what you said at the end of the video 100 percent, I hope the writers will weave the stories of revenge for the heroes with this logic.

There were two "True Warrior" figures that were presented in the first season :
– Thors, because he chose to desert the army and live a peaceful life with his family far from war. Like he said, "A True Warrior doesn't need any sword", meaning that conflict needs to be resolved by means other than violence.
– Canute : when the priest made him realize that the state of the world is the result of a discriminatory love, he managed to defeat a monster (Bjorn) with an undiscriminate and pure love. Yet he still went on to lead an army and chose to become a Devil (kinda similar to Erwin) in order to make the world a better place.

Aldohan 2023.03.06 - 11:17 pm

I must shout out Askeladd here he is such a peak character. He's not your typical good guy who turned into a villain because of sad backstory. He just chose to blend in the cruelty of the world as a viking, and that's why he hated himself and the vikings. Yet when he saw the True Warrior potential in Canute, he sacrificed his life to make him king, and now he's helping Thorfinn reach that level as well.

I cry a lot watching anime…I guess that's what being a One Piece fan will do to you 😅 However, I rarely sob uncontrollably. Well, today I did. I couldn't have dreamed of a better adaptation of this part of the manga. Absolutely peak fiction!
