Dark Schneider stole my car and 100$ from my wallet but hes still badass
Fun Fact: Bastard was part of the inspiration of the popular fighting game Guilty Gear
New Video Let’s Fucking Goo Also Sorry for not Patroning from the last Video had to some things.
Such a cool video and I'll definitely try to order the manga now
BASTARDO!
Is it me or the main 2-3 famous dark fantasy series
Aka bastard, claymore and berserk all have some DNA crossed with western sword and sorcery series called Elric of Melniboné .
It seems that the progenitor masterpiece of sword and sorcery of 60-80 pulp stories truly found it's DNA spread everywhere.
And one strand of it landed in japan and brought these masterpieces up .
Blessed me, Cheese for breakfast.
Amazing Video! Loved learning more about Kazushi Hagiwara's perspective along with his studio while working on Bastard!!
Cracking open a fine bottle of faygo to this one brother cousin
This series has always been on my radar regarding old classic comic series I might be interested in checking out, so I can say I'm a bit more so interested in checking it out whenever I can get to it through this video.
Excellent work as always
An amazing video worthy of one of my favourite series (and also Hagiwara being the amazingly god tier artist that he is)
Frankly, I'm shocked there hasn't been a collaboration between Bastard and ANY metal band; something on the level of Linkin Park and Gundam. Imagine an album cover drawn by Hagiwara.
Great stuff, definitely adding Bastard to the ptr list
Dammit man, you sold me on checking out Bastard. Hagiwara sounds like an absolute madman in both the best and most distressingly over perfectionist ways, but it makes me all the more amazed
This was a long time coming and it was amazing I really want to read this incredible Manga tell me Where I can find some amazing scantliations of this stat also I have a bit of a Request is it alright if you cover another Musical comedic fantasy manga namely Michiaki Watanabe's the Violinist of Hameln I only learned about it two years ago so I read it and fell in love with it was funny heartrending and just plain fun More people should know about it.
Interesting to see that I'm not the only person to have thought of comparisons between Bastard!! and the Xeno series before.
Now I just have to hope you make a video covering those games too.
Dark Schneider stands alongside the likes of Kenshiro and Guts as manga's greatest hero. That dude is just batshit crazy and I love it.
Also Bastard!! is one of the greatest manga of all time next to the Getter Robo Saga and Berserk.
Another great video. Had never heard of this series before, but it gives me similar vibes to Gantz with its dark themes and beautiful art. Definitely will be checking it out.
Huh so Schneider is just Rance….
You sold me
By the way, any chance of you covering Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans? I ask because it's very much how I envision a heavy metal fueled Gundam show.
Finished reading it last year and really enjoyed it already but this video has me itching for a reread now that I know more about the man behind it all. Great video
I always had the impression that DarkSchneider, along with Elric of Melinibonè was the main inspiration for the character of Kain in the Kegacy if Kain franchise.
Not reading unfinished manga
7:28 – Brazillian fan translation spotted LOL
YET ANOTHER BANGER
I saw the OVA in college and remember the impact of it but not often enough to track it down. This was an excellent pitch for what I should be reading next!
At first I was like, why is there a Berserk knockoff on the Mecha channel?
And then I learned the error of my ways, and now I want to get around to this someday. 🙃
Gotta watch this b4 it’s taken down
Hagiwara and his team have the most gorgeous depiction of a hydra of all-time.
"Dude just wants to chill and draw porn."
What a fucking legend.
Also, congrats on being among the league of youtubers that gets me interested in shit I never heard of!
Great video! After watching this video and reading the first 14 chapters (and learning that there's a mech in it) I'm sold on this series. Also do you plan on making a video on Five Star Stories someday? It's another long running 80s manga with beautiful art and enough lore and worldbuilding that it deserves it's own wiki.
Update: I just finished/caught up on reading it. Peak fiction, absolutely amazing, 10/10. I don't have the words to describe how great it is.
This is what peak fiction looks like. You may not like it, but manga has not been good since Bastard!!.
I had always wanted to get into the b**** series and thanks to the Netflix anime I have and now I want more so I'm definitely gonna check out the OVA and the manga. Also can I say I love the amount of work you put into your videos going into detail about these creations Keep up the good work man
I like this video, but you have to admit that a lot of Dark Schneider's behavior matches up with his shonen manga brethren. Most shonen manga protagonists are careless, reckless, greedy, cunning, selfish, selfish, wildly short-tempered, often horny, and hyper-violent. What makes Darsh fun isn't how he differs from his demographic contemporaries, but how he takes their traits to absolutely cartoonish, unreasonable extremes.
Darsh isn't just short-tempered and violent, he's explosively violent, vulgar, and exceedingly cruel to his opponents. Darsh isn't just horny, he's this ultra-horny sex god who's fucked over a thousand women. Darsh isn't just strong, he can theoretically destroy entire galaxies with a thought and is capable of destroying the entire universe.
He's what would happen if you made a shonen protagonist and then completely abandoned any sense of decency or restraint in the process.
Still, good video.
First I heard about bastard when the netflix trailer dropped. Watched it and after 1 episode I could tell it was written in the 80s from literally everything. It felt weird at first but it just gave me nostalgia and I loved it. It just feels like it's what modern shounen needed, they are all fast and barely funny, I don't think I'll read the manga but I absolutely hope netlfix just adapts everything there is.
Absolutely killed it with this video. Had been wanting to talk about Bastard on my channel since it deserves SO much more attention but didn’t really know how since it’s production status and didn’t feel I could confidently convey everything, YouTube desperately needed this video lmao cheers man
Fantastic video man! Bastard!! is one of those series that should be revered in the same league as Berserk in terms of influence and showcasing the limit an artist can put into their craft. So glad it's getting another lease on life with the new anime and Hagi has also stated that he plans to continue the story at some point before he dies so let's hope the new series had motivated him to get back to where he left off.
might be more metal references in this than jojo lol
Damn bro, first you sold me on Getter and now Bastard!! Your videos are great eye opener for these legnedary works.
I love the Bastard manga and have been wary about watching the new anime cause of how okay it looks
I have to thank you so much. I went and started the netflix adaption immediately after finishing this video yesterday, and it's easily the most fun/hype I've had watching an anime in years. It really feels to me like an old heavy medal album cover coming to life in front of your eyes! 🤘
me when the
I've been a fan of Bastard!! since it was still running in Shonen Jump. It's so rare to meet other fans in the English speaking world. Thank you so much for this excellent video!
Real genuine hentai IN the story. Dunno man, not for me I guess. I wouldn't be able to take the series even remotely serious or get invested. Even if I did manage to get invested, the sex would immediately pull me out of it.
I watched the ova years ago but finally picked up the manga because of this video and I completely forgot how awesome this series is. also very cool to see the inspiration for a lot of my other favorite series
I hope the manga comes back
I do have a question: does the Immoral Laws end with any closure, or is it just set up for another arc? I also was not expecting them to reference the Toxic Waltz dudes of Thrash metal.
Another series that refuses to die much to the enjoyment of its fan base. Rock on.
I will never get over the fact that he killed a fire demon/elemental, by casting a fire spell so powerful it killed it. like…. it's so stupid i love it.
