We can always respect the source material, but manga to anime or book to movie it is always an adaption. As such, it should have the liberty to do what they want with things, doesn't mean we need to like it though. Good thoughts as always. I also wanted to like Stampede but I think I only really like it when they put budget into the animation. I feel like it would make for a really fun film but a show with this pace just doesn't feel right to me. The original anime did a lot more with slower pacing, doing more while saying less with that runtime.

I was hoping Stampede would be a continuation of the old anime, not necessarily a reboot. I'm about 4 episodes in, and I'm enjoying it.
But it does feel a bit hollow compared to the original anime. Not Cowboy Bebop Live Action bad, but there is a feeling of similar disconnect.

Knives is a million (yes, I meant to do that) times better in Stampede than he was in Trigun '98.

So people seem to have this huge issue with the fast pace, because they are so used to the old Trigun anime stretching things out, because Madhouse was forced to do so to actually create a 26 episode long series. Yet despite having this desire for a slower pace story, that isn't revealing things at a fast pace like the manga and Trigun Stampede does, it really comes to a surprise to how incredibly impatient these fans are. This constant complaining about Milly not being there, about Vash having a lower bounty, about the Badlads Gang showing up without their leader B.D.N… In other words, people want to get this illusion of slow paced mystery, about things they there are already very familiar with, that wouldn't surprise them in any way when revealed, yet they absolutely can't stand the fact when faced with new mysteries & secrets?

Milly isn't there yet, because this version of Meryl we are seeing is a rookie, she right now is in the same position, as Milly used to be in past versions. Roberto being the one wielding Meryl's iconic Derringer gun instead of her, and handing over said gun to Meryl before he died, should make it blatantly clear what is going on her. July still exists, and this season's climax happens to take place in that city, the city Vash destroyed in past versions because of Knives triggering his powers, ultimately being the reason for Vash's huge bounty. And it is very clear that this season's climax will be the destruction of July. Which will then most likely follow the time skip, that used to take place after the Fifth Moon incident in past versions. A time skip that will then reintroduce us to a more experienced Meryl, and her new rookie, Milly Thompson. And as for the Bad Lads Gang? Vash stopped their ambush on the Sand Steamer! Now B.D.N has a clear motive to antagonize him! And since he was seen on Wanted Posters in past episodes of Trigun Stampede, he clearly still exists! Same can be said about the other Nebraska family members! Marilyn Nebraska was seen on a Wanted Poster as well, and with what happened to the Father & Gofsef in episode 3, Marilyn and the mother now have a clear motive to go after Vash as well, if they happen to appear in the next season.

You'd think people this obsessed with a slower pace, secrecy and mystery would be able to appreciate such a version of events, but I guess it must be all some blasphemous crime against the poor 1998 Trigun diehards, that just want to relieve a story they already know, instead of giving something they are unfamiliar with a chance, something that is a true mystery and secret to them.

I’ll take the original over this trash reboot/remake.

Ngl with you chief but if you can't kill the hater in your heart, you will never be able to appreciate Stampede as its own thing.

It is NOT a reboot of the 98's anime. It is a retelling of the manga story. And as a manga reader, you can tell that Stampede is looking to take a different path than previous Trigun stories.

And it's good!
It really seems to me that this show is playing the long game. This first season isn't even Trigun, it's a prologue. They're setting things up for next season so they can take their time with their hero's journey and I'm all for it.

It's certainly not perfect, and yeah, having the brotherhood treatment would've been cool bc Trimax is a masterpiece,

but if Stampede doesn't fumble the bag, I legit think it could have a far more interesting ending that both the 98's anime and Trimax has.

My only grievance right now is the main characters not being as nuanced as before but after episode 10, I'm pretty hopeful that it will get there next season.

Anyway, I invite everyone to give a chance to Stampede, it's better than it seems.

The OG Trigun anime was amazing, it's been in my top 10 list ever since I saw it (and I have watched a lot of shows). The feels, the tone, the setting and the interesting characters make it such a banger. So yeh, when they came with the Stampede trailer I felt like this too. And with the first episode I also felt like it wasn't gonna be worth it. Vash's design was not as outlandish anymore, it was all stuff that 'had been done before', etc.
But I kept following the show and I have to say, I really grew to love it, and now im obessed with it. Stampede takes more of the manga and goes deeper into some stuff that the OG left out or rushed (especially considering the OG was a lot of anime-only filler (albeit it really good filler)). Its less comedy, more dark stuff.. But it really grew into it and I would deffo say that if people can just see it as 'more trigun' instead of putting it against OG trigun, theyd easily enjoy it a lot.

Also I feel like many complaints like the bounty number and Roberto vs Milly might be because those elements will (hopefully) show up in a season 2. We have by now found out that Stampede is before the July incident–he will probably get his true bounty after July. And as for Roberto.. well.. Episode 10 happened. Im guessing Milly might become a new partner (kohai) for Meryl. Also, his spiky hair just doesnt work for the times. The 90's had wacky designs and it worked, but for this CGI style I personally think it would just look so out of place.

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I disagree

I’m sorry but you’re an idiot. You wrote an autopilot script and you’ve railroaded yourself into this position. The original absolutely not better. It’s just different.

Trigun Stampede is already a much better adaptation of its source material than Trigun 98.

Acesahn 2023.03.12 - 6:38 pm

I've noticed modern anime can't capture the gritty charm and humor of older titles. I've yet to see the 'Basturd!!!" remake but… I'm sure it'll be the same as Stampede and Urusei Yatsura remake. An eerie clone that's to clean and sterile.

Acesahn 2023.03.12 - 6:48 pm

This anime feels like what happens in Hollywood all the time, someone comes with up with a plot but the corporate suits attach it to a popular franchise for brand recognition so it'll sell better, but it displeases the old fans cuz its so wildly different from the source material.

No Millie no Soul.

Tommy VZ 2023.03.12 - 11:30 pm

What? You haven't read the manga? Why even make a comparison video then?

Creetosis 2023.03.13 - 1:07 am

Absolutely fantastic video, hit many of the main points that are wrong with this show. After seeing so much praise for it, I'm very glad to see someone throw some much deserved criticism! Keep up the great work!

daquen king 2023.03.13 - 1:52 am

I think of the first season as a prequel to the vash we know.

Morribb Tyler Lehrer 2023.03.13 - 6:04 am

Honestly I agree. Story of this new version is pretty awful.

Craig Beilby 2023.03.13 - 7:55 am

I was against Stampede when I saw Vash’s new design and the announcement of CG animation. I love the original series and when I heard this wouldn’t be the manga adaptation I’d been hoping for all these years I was bummed out.

It took weeks but I finally gave it a shot with a new mindset and it actually grew on me very quickly. I looked at it as more or less of a new adventure with most of the characters that I love. The CG isn’t bad at all and the story is a more serious one. It feels much darker and almost like a weird prequel reboot as every episode so far is leading up to the event in July that made Vash the wanted man he is. The art seems to show him with spiky hair so I’m hoping for him to dawn his classic hair cut and get his $$60 billion bounty at the end of the season. Here’s hoping they bring back the Angel arms as well 🤞🏻

Farrij Imam Hakiki 2023.03.13 - 11:15 am

The thing is, Vash’s personality is too much annoying for me. For someone who has lived more than 150 years, bro was too much soft. And the most annoying part is his “sweet promises” about finding a way to gain peace

valerielugokp 2023.03.13 - 4:35 pm

Stampede isn't even finished yet. This is going to be the biggest "let them cook" ever. Mark my words. A lot of you will love Stampede by the time it ends for real.

Louis TheNerd 2023.03.13 - 8:00 pm

I tried to watch the first episode and instantly gave up. It didn't feel like Trigun to me. They may as well have renamed all the characters and gave it a different title. I couldn't stand the animation. I don't like any of Studio Orange's work. The remixing of story and characters just put me off. It really didn't need to exist. It's an inferior product.

Ricardo Power 2023.03.13 - 8:05 pm

I get the frustration. But out of respect for the old series. Please watch the series. Episode 3 was amazing and after that …man it was dark and hell of a ride. I like the new approach and appreciate the old trigun also….and it's gotten much deeper. P.S after episode 10. I think they are saving Milly, because what I thought was gonna happened , happened.

Patillo Patoso 2023.03.13 - 9:41 pm

All your argument is wrong if you are comparing a dated anime with a new adaptation FROM THE MANGA. Emphasis in ADAPTATION. It is doing a great job to show the franchise to new generations

Joseph Palmer 2023.03.14 - 4:19 am

I think it's OK. Love the steampunk vibe and it's cool to see a new take on the characters both new and old. Not as good as the original but still a good series

Anon is No One 2023.03.14 - 11:00 am

The tone and story is what the author wanted. He didn't like the goofy tone they had in the original series. The anime's tone fits the manga. You and a lot of people r way too blinded by nostalgia that u just wanted the same type of story with the same tone as the original. U guys can't accept a different take on a story that was already it's own thing. It's not like the og even followed the manga anyway. Over half of it was filler. So y can't u treat this as it's own story as well?
