To be clear, when they said husks, they mean the non-independent plants don’t have souls/are non-sapient, not that the plants have pre-existing souls existing in the other dimension. Knives is using Vash to give them souls (or their offspring have souls). Recall how we learned that non-independent plants can’t survive without human care (because without humans regulating their power production, non-independent plants basically burn through all of their energy at once). Non-independent plants are kinda like silk-worms, only instead of producing silk, they produce power/other resources.
So there isss a lot of stuff in this episode, rq I wanted to say fun fact! Rem Saverem is a play on words “Rem Save Them” such as Rem saving all the humans and such. But there is a lot of biblical things going on, Vash’s gate looks like Christ’s side wound which can symbolize how Vash will suffer for humanity feminize him along with his maternal look. In the original artwork for his gate after the ending, a friend of mine pointed out the fact you can even see a clitoris at the top of his gate. Knives can also represent probably the sperm fertilizing the egg by the “Core” looking like a Egg Cell. Hence souls can be born when a egg is fertilized, which is Knives plan somehow. Also the fact that Vash connecting to the plants Wombs and made them all pregnant is another thing that might be connected. It started with Nai reading the Bible to having a lot of biblical things happening now, you can also say the Tank water that Knives and Vash can somehow breathe in can be the same liquid in the womb. There is so much stuff happening and I haven’t even explain half of the other stuff. This show is so good it’s amazing!!!!!

I think that Conrad is not right about dependent plants having no souls. I think that belief stems from the religion that Knives created based off the Bible. And he thinks that the reason not all plants are independent is because they have no soul. I don't think we as viewers should take what Conrad said as wog.
