Lets Talk About Trigun Stampede…

by MOEPP

Trigun Stampede just released its first episode a couple of days ago and Noah gives his thoughts and opinions on it. Stampede has a lot of potential and some big shoes to fill, with the first episode doing a fairly good job.

I give Trigun Stampede Episode 1 a:

Nicolas D. Wolfwood/10

Chapters:
0:00 – Intro
01:38 – The Good
02:31 – The Stuff I’m Mixed About
04:56 – The Bad
06:51 – Conclusion

Never got deep into it but I remember watching the first few episodes of trigun with my brother way back in the day and it was magical. Highly skeptical of the reboot but maybe I'm just old and jaded.

As a longtime fan i liked it.

The manga doesnt create too much mystery about Vash – most questions are answered by the end of volume 1 and we learn about Rem and Knives within the first few chapters.

And I get why people prefer the old design but im actually sold on the new one. It makes more sense to me that the people of No Man's Land would mistake this Vash for just some '20 year-old' kid.

Yeah…I’ll be THAT guy! I am old enough to have read the manga when it dropped back in the day as well as the series back in ‘98…watched the first episode of this “REBOOT” and I will not be continuing forward…thanks but no thanks. 🥲

While I love the mystery the OG series creates, I also think it was created out of necessity since they had 26 episodes to make and not as much source material to go around since the manga was just getting its second wind with Trigun Maximum. And while those mysteries are answered pretty late into the OG anime, they're answered pretty early in the manga by comparison. A lot of those Trigun anime episodes were mixes of manga chapters and original content.

As for the new series, I think there is still an element of mystery as we don't necessarily know how Stampede will address and mix up these familiar elements. It may not be the original, but I like how each version of Trigun gives you a different experience of the core story. Kinda like how long running franchises like Teansformers and TMNT will give a familiar core conflict, but with a different coat of paint and direction. I'm looking forward to the new episodes each Saturday. It gives me that old feeling of waking up to watch Saturday Morning cartoons.

The original writer for the series has stated that his intent was to retell the story of trigun and studio orange has also stated that when they adapt other works there intention isn't just to simply adapt it but to re-imagine it using the advantages of the medium of animation. This production has all the necessary peices to make one of the greatest anime we've have the pleasure of seeing but requires us to patient and observe

What I hate about animation style like this is that the world the characters engage in seem empty and fake. I know it's an anime, but 3D animation lacks the attention to detail in the world the characters live in to make it feel like a living world

I agree with most things said, though I think I lean more towards the positive side of the spectrum. Also, saying the cg looked just "fine" is a massive understatement in my nook. This is some of the best cg I've seen in anime yet!

There are some questionable decisions made in the first episode, and I think it's fair to say it has a more "generic" feel to it. But I'm still veeery excited to see where this show is going!:D

I kinda miss his spiky hair

Honestly I think the take of having Vash's backstory revealed in the first episode is actually not that much of a bad thing. I mean, the concept is still vague, there's nothing much to say for Rem and Nai is just revealed as his brother.

I think having a little bit of information slip to make people be interested on how and what does this person affects a certain character's life is better than to leave it in the dark. I think the only problem is since this is a Remake, the plot is pretty much known so it doesn't make that much impact now. It's like watching One Piece in 2023, Ace's death wouldn't make you feel something now because you already know it's happening anyways.

No it's not worth watching …

At The end of the manga Millie and marell become live tv reporters following vash 24/7. Also nice wild arms song.

VoidPrince 2023.01.12 - 9:12 pm

Wow you cut this remake way to much slack.

Ruben Sánchez Ramírez 2023.01.12 - 9:34 pm

I also found the dialogue pretty disappointing, heavy with badly disguised exposition.

The Loli Futanari Girl 2023.01.12 - 9:40 pm

So is it Worth watching?

Chompazz 2023.01.13 - 2:16 am

It was promising now will it have the same meanings behind it like the og series I don’t think but we see

Steven Crutchfield 2023.01.13 - 3:55 am

This was a good take on the show. Everything you mentioned was pretty exact on how I personally felt about the reboot. As you said, I think it may have been better if they went 1 to 1 with the manga, but we'll see how this new depiction plays out.

Ghuff 2023.01.13 - 6:14 am

The 3d isnt just “not bad” it’s down right amazing from what I’ve seen

Patrick Rein 2023.01.13 - 10:59 pm

It's a small thing but I am not a fan of switching the caliber of his pistol from .45 Long colt to a .22 LR. The 45 long colt had strong ties to the western themes.

I'd say calling some of the most fluid and characterised 3D movements in TV Anime history: "Not that bad" is some major downplay. This unironically looks more full of life and dynamic than the vast majority of fully 2D shows.

Long term Trigun fan here to share some thoughts, I mean all of this in a positive way

The "bad" can be covered with the manga and I mean Maximum, yes there is a lot more lore there than just "yo they are from space" because Trigun is more of a sci-fi than a western later on, Maximum's later half of the manga is a very different beast, it was ongoing for 10 years it goes places beyond Gunsmoke

I think the reason why Nightow wanted a retelling was because of the jumbled lore he wrote for the characters, later on, * looks at Knives, in particular, * and for that lore to have a successful payoff you need to see the groundwork early on for what is to come.

Stampede's first episode NEEDED to show us the twins and Rem, this is vital to the whole story going forward, its a setup of the lore that will come on top of this so it doesn't feel like a huge exposition dump all at once because there will be a lot of space stuff to cover later.

The original designs were iconic for the 90s anime only, Maximum manga Vash gets a hair change pretty often and so do the girls, his coat even gets an upgrade, but the 90s had very little of the canon to work with and they did the best they could and it was fantastic ….just sadly a lot of it was filler and the canon goes in a different direction entirely

Also yeah Millie will show up when we least expect it, I can bet on it at this point, if the original Gung-Ho-Guns are in the trailers, you know she will need to show up to join our crew eventually

Millie got Replace by Robert De niro of all of the actors not Jack Nicholson. Haha
