Ah yes olmar’s infamous moment. Yea the second hand embarrassment was bad with this one and that was even just from reading the manga panels. I also love the small shot of ketil with his face in his hands. I’ve made my dad feel like that once or twice and it’s always a very fun feeling 😭

Requisition of land refers to the process by which a government takes possession or control of land from its current owner for public use through either negotiation or eminent domain powers. I think overall it is a really neat tie in to Canute’s approach of doing unjust for the greater good. Perhaps this is how the concept of sovereign power originated. These days we have laws that force the government to compensate the owner for the losses but idk if Canute will, since he isn’t held back by rules like that.

I think the issue with moral principles, like utilitarianism in this example, is the dogmatism. Utilitarianism is an important principle in society and social groups, but adhering to it as an absolute rule eliminates flexibility and it's ability to deal with different situations. Sacrificing an individual's rights for the greater good is one such injustice and with the balance of power it obviously can be enforced at the whim of those in charge.
I don't think dogmatic morality is the best way to go about things. It encourages us to use our critical thinking and empathy less and be much more robotic about such issues
Another example is corporal punishment. I don't think it's right or even necessary to use it to raise children. But I think we can all agree that Olmar is a special case
People interpret history differently, as we all have different values as individuals/groups. So history itself may have all the major recorded downs & falls, but I think it's up to teachers… to help guide students towards learning the values in those lessons that history provides.

thors and askeladd told thorfinn to become a "true warrior". a true warrior is mentally strong. the exact opposite of what thorfinn was just one episode ago.
