I loved this first episode! And the credits reminded me of Demon Slayer.. i loved everything! I was waiting the anime since i finished the game last year!

I wanted to watch Nier with my girlfriend because of the nice story since I played the game but we couldn't stop laughing at the imported game models and poor CGI. She ended dropping it and rated it 3/10.

People have to be aware of all shows have budget. As long it execute the idea well is what matters.
There are ways to use cgi and ways not to use gci. That still frame at 5:35 looks terrible. I dont understand doing the anime in this style. It looks like a worse version of the game. Just play the game. This story should have been done in a much more surrealist animation style, imo.
I thought it was amazing. Very true to the start of the game. Can’t wait to see the rest. Some fans just get so protective of a game or shape that they make up their mind instantly that any show or other form of media that tries to do it justice is automatically bad. Nothing is perfect and I don’t claim that this first episode was perfect, but as someone who loved Nier automata, this was a fantastic start to the show.
I'm just happy it got an anime and hopeful that i will enjoy it. but if all others do is nit pick then they won't enjoy the show at all. All game adaptations aren't necessarily going to be good. But this game at least i enjoyed.
the breakneck pace of the first episode is due to the first mission taking most people almost an hour to finish, if you're watching cutscenes on top of it

Netflix should do a prequel to this, "Nier Origins: Drakengard", story & characters, the tone, would be a good addition as Anime in general
I would be worried for it as an adaptation since NieR Automata as a game uses it being a game to help benefit the narrative. I mean it’s kinda the reason certain games like Undertale wouldn’t have a good transistion to other narrative mediums.

Here's the thing about the cg. The models and animation itself is fantastic. Problem is the lighting engine or shader. It's very primitive looking. I mean it looks worse than the game itself. It just needed a different rendering engine or shader.
And just because berserk is leagues worse, doesn't mean any other gets a pass cause it looks a lot better. A lot of cg looks better than berserk's. My cg looks better
Honestly the pacing in this compared to the game feels so much worse. Something about this feels wrong. Straight story game adaptations have always been tricky cause the gameplay helps pace the story. The best adaptations don't follow the story exactly. Castlevania and cyberpunk 2077 are fantastic adaptations cause they do something unique with the source material.
It anime from manga adaptations are better cause animes can do things that mangas can't. Like music, animation and voice acting. Games have all of that
People who didn't play the game would love the anime. But if you played the game, you basically already watched the anime. The anime is good but it is just copied and pasted from the game.
Its just like why? It's an inferior version in quite literally every way compared to the game.

12:30 ya playing a game again as a different character with some different scenes (and different gameplay) is vastly different than watching a whole series of episodes from a "different perspective" of almost entirely the same sequences. It would NOT translate well at all in an anime and make it boring to watch. With anime (or any show) you can switch perspectives perfectly fine because you're spectating the story. A game cannot swap back and forth from character because that would be terrible and jarring. This was the only proper way to do it without making the anime indulgently long and difficult to get through for most people. And it would cause them to have to cut a lot of side quest stories that could be used for character development in favor of retelling the whole A/B sequence again unless S1 ended up being 40 episodes long.

My honest opinion on the CGI, is that isn't bad, but I think it could be better. Especially with the flight unit animation. The pods are CGI but they are shaded to fit alongside 2B and 9S. The flight units don't share the same shading and so stick out from the rest of the artstyle. It isn't the worst 3d CGI job I've seen, I just think it could be better. It's nothing that will stop me from continuing to watch.
Video game adaptations are notoriously bad. Especially 1 to 1 adaptations. Because you cannot match the freedom of interactivity when translating just the cutscenes. Same thing that happened to persona 5.
I'll be honest the mech suit CGI is bad, but other than that I do enjoy the rest of it
I watched the episode and as a person who has played the game, hats off to A-1 this was incredible even the cgi was good. So excited 😆

15:54 error it is in the game but is not animated is just told the true role and the betray buckle thats is mencioned in the anime, the diference is the time anime at the start and the game like very advance on the story
The first episode was good! But I do have my issues. CGI was pretty wonky in the first episode, but honestly, it's whatever, I can look past it. Like one or two transitions were very abrupt and sudden, the main one I can think is the switch to 9S's introduction, where the music just stopped in it's tracks. But ok, that's fine. The episode felt kind of rushed for me, but that like 40 minutes or so of gameplay that they had translate into one episode. Of course, the best way to experience this game is to.. play the game, that's true of all video game adaptations, of course it won't feel the same. I have faith in this series and I know that it'll be great, because aside from all my nitpicking, it's great! The style is nice, the music is from the game so that's nice, and the 2D animation is superb, and the 3D animation is ok at it's worst and awesome at it's best. The first episode isn't the best thing ever, but it's the 👏 first 👏 damn 👏 episode 👏
Things will get better from here. To those who wanna drop it, wait until you've watched up to episode three, and then decide, stopping at the first episode isn't fair. Anyways, that's it from me. Can't wait to see where this goes!!

It is totally loyal to the game, and it's choosing the best way narrate the main story… a single episode is not enough to criticize it… wait for it

This is by far one of the best video game adaptations to anime that has ever been done. And that is my opinion in only 2 episodes. It is extremly faithful to the game (and even adds new stuff). If you like the game you should love the show.
It is fitting in all 3 playthroughs into a single season which makes sense. So everything that would happen latter is happening all at once.
Who the fuck hates it? It's been 2 episodes and both great. A bit rushed if anything. Damn these weebs

If you really need to pause and zoom in every frame just to desperately nitpick in order to somehow complain and validate your takes, then you have no point.
