Choosing what anime to watch can be incredibly difficult sometimes. So I decided to let a randomizer choose for me. Again.

would love to see a full video on trigun, especially if you end up reading the manga or watching 98 🙂 i watched stampede, then read the manga, and then watched the original show…. and id probably make my own analysis video if i had enough experience to do it lol
Ah man, you got super lucky with it giving you The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, such a fantastic movie.
Girl who leapt through time is one of my top ten anime movies. (First 3 are Satoshi Kon films and Kiki's. Then the list gets harder…)
Loving the content and your incredibly approachable way of getting people into anime, or newbies into watching more of it. I like your informative history dumps of older anime spin-offs/adaptations or long running animes, so definitely keep that up.
For the safety wheel recommendations if you’re still taking them (sorry if mentioned already), Dragon Goes House Hunting is a fantastic little light hearted slice of life anime with an out there concept (the names says it all) and SK8 Infinity is just a beautiful looking and pleasantly fun anime based on a sport I love watching and got into watching as a child thanks to various video game series.
The algorithm pointed me your way, and I'm pretty excited so far. I Love Team Rocket, and during your review of Yatterman Night, I decided to look up the best legal ways to watch it. That appears to be through Funimation (-_-) So, I signed up and started creating a queue for the free trial period.
And right towards the end of your first review, Funimation recommended me The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. I remember thinking, "Oh, I loved that movie! Good times!" And I freaked out when your second anime review was in fact for the Girl Who Leapt Through Time! What in the algorithm! They're on to you!
I had to pause and comment, because it was such a funny coincidence / trick of AI. I've also bookmarked your website and subscribed. Big thumbs up.
I appreciate the properly placed spoiler warnings, I'll be back to hear your thoughts that I missed this time!
Trigun Stampede was fantastic! As a manga fan the comic both shows are based on is one of my favorite comics of all time
man puts "underrated" in the title and then talks about one of the most famous anime movies of the century and one of last season's biggest shows. i'm still trying to figure out how an anituber doesn't seem to know who mamoru hosoda was before this.
If nothing else, stampede needs to be renewed for Milly I miss her so much
Got to say I do prefer this format. Can't wait too see if you watch more of Mamoru Hosoda works: such as Wolf Children and Summer Wars. The first of which I think is one of the best anime films I've seen.
I enioyed the previous anime recommendation video so it was cool to see a spiritual successor to that video. Finding obscure media is always neat. It feels like you know something that gives you a bit of bragging rights.
I love your content guy
Your videos are criminally underrated. I love how you do an incredible amount of unnecessary research that's just so entertaining, cool and interesting even if its just minor stuff lol. Another amazing video Lex, keep it up man!
Love the long videos btw and they have so much re watch value.
Thank you YouTube Algorithm for bringing this to my feed. Great video
something interesting about the fact that both times you've done this, the last show was one i was planning to watch and so didn't want any info on. unfortunate bc it means less content for me, but also a good motivator. still have to watch utena tho.
I liked the new one well enough and the animation is astounding. I will say it is a rather different take from the original. Wont go in to spoilers since the 90s one is SO worth watching, even having seen Stsmpede… but they basically reordered events. I usually get why they did this, actually. For instance, Knives comes MUCH later in the first anime. But there's def parts I miss. With only 12 episodes it is hard to have time to inject the humor that the first one had. Also Vash was a bit more proactive and multidimensional in the original. Plus there is a great character that hasn't shown up yet at all. There is more, but I cant go in to it without spoilers. Suffice to say that they take different directions. The original is my favorite anime so obviously I am biased, but the new one is worthwhile. There's just a lot I miss.
My mind went like:
yatterman night: oh that looks cool
The girl who leapt through time: ok that looks REALLY cool
Trigun stampede: HOLY SHIT HE PULLED OUT A FUCKING ROCKET LAUNCHER!!???
thanks for putting all those the wind rises clips in the background love that movie
i could watch your videos all day. but i have to nag about the ending of the girl that leaped through time, i LOVE this movie, but i dont understand when and where chiaki is waiting, and will he still be a teen in the future? thats weird?
I haven't finished the original Trigun nor Stampede, only 4 episodes of both. And to be honest, Og Trigun's failure in Japan is understandable. It looks like a series set in America with no sci-fi elements (So far from the episodes I saw) unlike Cowboy Bepop that makes it clear immediately.
It also really feels like an anime of its time with its characters. We got a Tsundere girl, an airhead girl, and Vash is basically a combo of Naruto and the guy who keeps looking into girl's bathouses.
Without the sci-fi elements it feels (at the beginning I guess?) like any other anime produced back then, and the conflict or misunderstanding set at the beginning is not really funny or interesting enough to capture the interest of a viewer.
I haven't seen Trigun Stampede and I don't think I will, but I'm not here to hate on it.
The action you showed looked really cool and I can definitely see that there's a lot to like about it.
It just feels that the vibe of the show is very different from the original, which was kind of mysterious and melancholic at times, which is what stuck with me the most.
For me personally, I just can't perceive stampede as a separate story, even though that would be the correct thing to do, so I probably won't be able to enjoy it properly.
If you enjoyed The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, you should definitely check out more of Mamoru Hosoda's work! I can't recommend Wolf Children and Boy and the Beast enough, they're fantastic films. Summer Wars is really good as well
I'm happy to see someone else that watched Yatterman Nights! It's been a while since I've seen it, but the premise is really cool. One that I wish to see more of.
Since you enjoyed the Yatterman reboot, I highly recommend the other Tatsunoko hero reboots. Casshern Sins is an EXCELLENT show that I think you'll like and I've heard Gatchaman Crowds is a fun and quirky show.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of my favorite anime movies too! I always assumed it was more popular than it apparently is. You should check out everything directed by Mamoru Hosoda. I haven't seen Belle yet, but everything else I've seen from him is top shelf.
I love these randomizer videos! I hope you get some more good shows out of it.
Man I really want to like Trigun Stampede, but I just can't get over the god awful redesign they did for Vash.
This was a super fun video, looks like more anime to add to my already growing backlog. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into these dude. This was really interesting.
Been absolutely in love with your videos for quite a while now, and so too has the wife! If you end up doing another one of these randomizer videos, we'd love to see you review Guilty Crown!
Watch Kaiba by masaaki yuasa. It's a dark, mature cyberpunk love story and it changed my life.
I need to thank you for reviewing Stampede from the perspective of someone who hasn't seen the '98 Trigun. I grew up watching the original release on Adult Swim so I have been begging some of my friends who are new to anime to review it because I was having trouble differentiating between 'this just being another meh reboot' and 'I'm just jaded because I'm a Trigun fanboi'. I do want my biggest problem was the character design of Vash. Would love to hear what people think on the differences between the models.
I can respect the 3d animation, I just stylistically like the feel of the crunchy older style and how the animation flows there more.
And yet you use a 2d image of OG Vash in the thumbnail… curious…
jkjk i loved the video and you need to keep doing these, I love hearing about things that were never even close to my radar like yatterman. Though I don't think we'll see eye to eye on Stampede, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Precure when?????
the first random anime video inspired me to also use the site to watch random anime and so far it's been pretty fun so thank you for that 🙂
Personally I think that subversion was pretty good. For sure how history is remembered is generally dictated by the victors but what if the villains were actually the villains.
Thanks for the anime randomizer
