I know some people may not like the episode after the first few minutes cus they'll be like "why are we spending so much time focusing on these characters that wont matter later" etc but personally, I think it was fucking beautiful and one of my favorite episodes in the entire show.
Miklagard means 'the great city' and it refers to Constantinople the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
This ep encapsulates why I love Vinland – starts off making you hype about a fight and then dissects why the fighting is actually tragic af because no one wins in the end. GOATed season.
"Vinland is so boring now!" Nah s2 better than s1 cuz MaGOATo Yukimura doesnt need war and all the violence to write an amazing story. He's just an amazing story teller.
Not the same words but the comment i saw was basically along the lines of "Why did it take so long for Gardar to die?? Get this over with!!" It was way faster in the manga, took me about 30 seconds to read the scene. I very very much appreciate Mappa for extending his final moments with the flashbacks and seeing what he's seeing as he passes away. I was Team Gardar cuz he put up with a lotta SHIT for years and he got away willing to do ANYTHING to get his wife and son back.
Snake's role was reasonable, cuz he won't rest until his men were avenged. In the ep, he said Miklagard, which back then meant Constantinople, Turkey. That's how he got that sword.
Side note, i love how the show has the underlying theme of masculinity, which is so refreshing these days even though this started way before feminism/woke culture. Just amazingly written male characters, the leader types, the inspirational role model types, the wise old grandpa, examples of what not to be/do, so many. In his interview with Gigguk/Garnt, Yukimura-sensei said he writes about all these father-son relationships because he was a son once and now he's a father with 3 children. Combined his creativity with his knowledge and experiences. Amazing interview, well worth watching.
i generally don’t care about if other folks enjoy the things i enjoy, but i feel like if more folks understood that VS is a drama with some action instead of being an action anime. Like if this shit was live action it would be something good enough to be on FX or AMC or some shit
Toxic feminists will say after watching this episode, "This happened because of toxic masculinity." I actually saw a female reactor who watched one of the previous episodes and mentioned that. Unsubbed immediately. 😄
Man Vinland Saga is 10/10 masterpiece!
Bruh. This hit hard fr. Got me so sad watching how much he regretted his decision to walk out that door. Also, his suffering and how you can visually see the changes he had endured mentally and physically at the hands of the man that enslaved him. Sucks that Gardar is gone but at least he found his way back home at the end.
RIP Gardar.
DanMachi episode 22-23 when? I neeed it 🙏🙏🙏
perfect way to end my night, thanks yall
Man I was excited to see the fight between Thorfinn and Snake and it didn’t disappoint and Gardar and Arnheid story make me cry.
Idk about Thorfin Or Snake but Gardar is Absolutely beast he is stronger then thorfin and snake
Miklagard is basically the Viking name for the city of Constantinople. if you know anything about turkey or the byzantine empire its had a lot of names. it been called Byzantium, Constantinople, and is currently called Istanbul.
Never sleep on snake
Next Episode is gonna be quit controversial
Y eso que torffin no había peleado en un buen tiempo y no tenía sus dos dagas ,y aún así combatió para no matar solo para noquear
god damn that piano guy is raping my tear ducts again
the respect snake and thorifinn have for each other now is amazing , in a twist of fate , top fighers in the verse ended up one as slave and other as farm protector instead of generals or smth like thorkfill .
and the way snake was able to tell how hard thorifinn life was based on one minute into fight is amazing
Action packed , respect between characters , emotional af . bro vinland saga is art not an anime at this point
This anime is full of regrets man…
That part without the dialogues of characters. The animation, music is all need to make you feel and understand the story that being told to. Direction is on point.
This episode made me cry so hard and I know I’m not the only one. First time I’ve cried in anime after years, Gardar and Arnheid never deserved this 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Honestly that episode hit hard maaaaaan…
Season 2 of Vinland Saga continues to make its case for kt being one of the greatest seasons of anime or the 2020s, if not ever.
It isnt just the presentación, it isnt just the animation, or the directing, or the voice acting.
Yukimura has the balls, AND the talent, to go where modern anime tends to not eveb tread.
It takes a special kind of writer to tackle the subjects of war, slavery, death, love, and regret with the type of weight and gravitas it deserves, and it takes a special kind of director to take an already masterful source material and elevate it further.
Vinland is one of the few series i can comfortably say that goes above and beyond the standard tropes of "anime" and enters the realm of peak fiction.
Spoiler Alert for next episode
For the manga readers, next episode is gonna be TOUGH.
NGL the last parts of this ep just made cry so hard i was crying the whole time like arenheid , this is what we call a peak anime ep , well done mappa , the piano piece that was being played along the scenes at last moments were just so emotional i couldn't help but cry . No words mann i m still crying mann!
Ànd on the other hand i gotta appreciate the lil fight between snake and thorfinn .
I came here to watch grown me cry and gotdammit if I don’t see it by the end of this video
RIP Chad-ar
Just fyi, Snake said he is a warrior of Miklagard. Miklagard is the nordic name for the city Constantinople. Constantinople was at this point in history the capital of the Byzantine empire, which was basically the continuation of the Roman Empire.
This leads me to believe the Snake was most likely a member of the Varangian Guard, an elite unit of the Byzantine Empire that was primarily composed of warriors recruited from the far away north of Europe. The Varangian Guard served as the personal guards of the Byzantine Emperors. That also would explain his exotic sword.
I could not stop myself from crying when he saw his son in the afterlife and how happy they both were to see each other.
I dont know what was most depressing part. Him reuniting with his son in the after life. For his son waiting for him at his home. Or regretting to abandon his family for glory.
