Whats crazy about Snake, is if Ketil said he wanted to execute Araneid, Snake would have just sat there and watch it happen. Even protect him from someone trying to stop him. They beat that child nearly as badly just because he stole a bag of flour, and he was a free man. Punishments used to be very cruel, especially for slaves. Even the bible condones beating your slaves.

Strong of you to bear through the watch and do the editing even though the strong reaction. ❤ This episode was very uncomfortable, yet realistic and didn't hide away from the sad truth of slaves treatments but also some mens treatments of women.

Yeah this episode was hard to watch though you did ask something about Pater, so I'll answer that. It's been a while since they said it in the anime, but Pater was a former slave of Ketil who earned his freedom by working and then decided to become a retainer for him. Also, I didn't see any glitch with Einar's beard maybe it was something on your end.

At start what happened to her and her child was really tragic -understable
But when she got laid by ketil the expression she has on her face was ,that she accepted her fate now as a slave -her first mistake (losing faith is a sign of weakling and weakling are bound get trampled)
Onthe other hand after 6years Gadar struggling came to her just to save her and relive his life (I know it would be difficult but if she tried told him truth treated his wound stop snake ask help from thorfinn atleast did an least amount of effort maybe there was a possibility) and what she did said "I will wait for the Strom to pass by" literally meaning – I will wait for my husband to die –
And how the hell she thought just because she is not treated as a slave ketil would accept the child and raise it ,like how could you expect this from someone like ketil – and betray your loving husband
A truly loyal and loving wife would better her own dignity life of his husband than prioritising her own life.
She is like she can have anyone child if she see a better future with her.
Gadar is the one who suffered here, Just imagine if Gadar have Arenhied personality he would just flee to a safe place and live his life peacefully somewhere maybe alone or with someone else – then viewers tell me what would you said that he didn't came to save her wife even ,if he wanted he could have also assumed that She was dead.
Arenhied is get the result of her dumbness, unfaithfulness and losing hope. If Relationship are not that strong and pure that you can give and sacrifice yourself than better do not also wish for a better future.
She looks like a good character but hollow and characterless in disguise,just like wild animal that love there cubs, love there life survive to live – but she cannot differentiate human life with that (I do understand that in Vinland saga no one follow rules and regulations) but because of her Gadar died if she tried or do even a effor maybe there could be possibility he would have lived.
