To be fair in the original trigun finale this episode sorta gave me that vibe just not focusing on sci fi elements however I do agree with you rating this time though I usually agreed with your Vinland saga shorts but this is the first time I sorta give it that rating
They're not really reinventing the characters in Stampede. The reinventing is mostly on the "aesthetic" side but "the character" core is mostly in line with the manga. It is more so that the OG Trigun anime made deviations of characters trait which made them more different than the manga.
Can't wait for Trigun fans to find out 98 is actually the one that reinvented the characters and Stampede is far more faithful to Maximum in that regard
Okay so, about the whole "The angel wings makes no sense" thing…
It does make sense on multiple levels, but I wanna focus on my favorite one…symbolically. Vash is an angel. Well at least he represents one, so it only makes sense for him to have this giant black wing that contrasts with the white color of Knives, as Angels are mainly remember for their beautiful wings. Trigun always had a big use of religious theme and imagery, so it only makes sense to use something as memorable as the wings of an angel for Vash, to represent the fact that he is one, and it doesn't really need an explanation in my opinion…we already knew that Vash was more than a simple human, so it's not that surprising that he can pull off that Angel wing, maybe he even has some other kinds of powers we don't know about. And finally, the focus isn't on creating a super rich lore where we explain every detail of the story, the power system, and all that stuff. The story is about Vash melancholy, his relationships, and HOW FUCKING COOL THE FIGHT I MEAN LOOK AT THIS SCENERY IT'S AWESOME AND THE ANIMATION LOOKS LIKE IT'S STRAIGHT UP COMING FROM A MOVIE OH MY GOD THIS ANIME IS SO FUCKING GOOD !
I know they're not the same but they definitely have correlation. If you read the manga you can see vash and knives often spring out wings or feather-like things when using their powers.
I’m tired of anime only fans judging stampede off of an anime that was actually more divorced from triguns manga than stampede has been but sure go off about how things make no sense because you never took the time to read the source materials 😂
