OMG HE SAID IT!! THORFINN SAID THOSE WORDS THAT THORS SAID TO HIM ALL THAT TIME AGO AT THE VERY BEGINNING!!! I can’t believe it. I never expected those words to be brought back and with so much power and conviction behind them. Thorfinn is an absolute legend. And following that, taking 100 hits and being acknowledged as a true warrior, he reunited with Canute. It didn’t really go the way he wanted though…Canute isn’t backing down with his “new” mission

Canute trying to command the tide is actually based on an anecdote concerning the real life Canute, really clever by Yukimura
she so fine
i got emotional seeing you getting emotional
Scandanavian last names usually started with their father's name and "son" or "dotter" at the end of it. So Thorfinn's real name is more like Thorfinn Thorson. Karlsefni means "Making of a man" or "Promising man" and he earned that title after his rematch with Thorkell. He is based off of the real Thorfinn Karlsefni so that's how they incorperated that name into the series.
THORS lives through Thorfinn! I am so proud !!!!! 😭😭😭😭
On the topic of whether this is what Askeladd would have wanted from Canute, you got to remember the only thing that Askeladd really wanted was a leader to follow and safety for Wales. He was never really all too interested in the whole Paradise part of Canute's plan so long as Wales would be free from any coming wars
King Canute is actually a real person, the last scene is based on a famous Story of King Canute of England Commanding the waves –
[W]hen at the summit of his power, he ordered a seat to be placed for him on the sea-shore when the tide was coming in. Then, before a large group of his flattering courtiers, he spoke to the rising sea, saying, "Thou, too, art subject to my command, for the land on which I am seated is mine, and no one has ever resisted my commands with impunity. I command you, then, o waters, not to flow over my land, nor presume to wet the feet and the robe of your lord."
The tide, however, continued to rise as usual, dashing over his feet and legs without respect to his royal person.
Then the King leaped backwards, saying: "Let all men know how empty and worthless is the power of kings, for there is none worthy of the name, but He whom heaven, earth, and sea obey by eternal laws."
Thenceforth King Canute never wore his crown of gold, but placed it for a lasting memorial on a statue of Our Lord to the honor of God the Almighty King, through whose mercy may the soul of Canute, the King, enjoy everlasting rest.
Great Episode, great Anime, it would only be toped , If he gets killed by an Arrow randomly shot
Canute wants to save the vikings precisely because nobody likes them. He feels pity for them because god has long abandoned them and just like how askeladd hates the vikings, everybody does too and canute is like who's to stand up for them if not the one who commands them?
Really glad to have found the channel and seeing your Vinland and Mob reactions. Also gotta say I appreciate the Clannad outro aong
I’ve been waiting for this for a LOOONG TIME to be adapted, and I’m beyond satisfied. Although they shift some panels of the manga, it ain’t bad as I anticipated
Many rulers have tried the same thing as Canute through history, and the result is always the same. When you build on a mountain of corpses, the foundations will always rot away. Hell, China has been unified and broken more times than almost anyone.
Canute turned into an absolute spoilt coward while Thorfinn turned into an absolute legend for the people
Manga is much better
I'm a little disappointed that the Thorfinn scene without enemies isn't executed properly, the Canute scene actually looks much better, from the animation and visuals it looks much better than the manga.
ngl I was honestly worried Canute went Caligula for a few sec there 23:02
Why does everyone think that Canute has changed? Watch the 20th episode of the 1st season. He said bluntly: "If you have to become a demon to build heaven on earth, he will do it." Canute is trying to bring peace to the most hostile culture. This is impossible without violence.
Canute is trying to bring peace to the most hostile culture. This is impossible without violence. We need restrictions, harsh laws… what Canute is already doing. To change the worldview of a huge culture = to build a paradise on this territory. It's a difficult task, but for some reason people don't understand Canute. They call him a murderer and a tyrant, forgetting about his actions to prevent further violence. Even in the situation with the requisition of the farm, he chose the lesser of evils. And what are the other options? Raise taxes for the entire population (risk of rebellion) or disband the army in England (great risk of rebellion and war). Canute is an incredible man
What askeladd thinking? You forget that askelass is viking himself kill and many stole/plunder each village they see and make them slave too. Just rewatch s1 ep 6, when they raid the village and they send thorfinn to scout in village and thorfinn slightly adapted by the old woman by the later. their village was burned down by asaskeladd group and man was killed and woman was capture by aaskeladd man same as what happened to arnhied village.
Thorfinn Karlsefni is a nickname given to him by the vikings, not his full name, similar with Thors the Troll, Thorkell the Tall, Askeladd the Lucky, Iron fist Ketil, etc. He's basically a legend among vikings or already well known so that nickname comes up when they talk about strong warriors.
Thank you for warning them not to separate before reaching Iceland together
Next episode is going to be legendary!
Canute's motivations still remain the same as when he stared down Bjorn. I also don't think Askeladd would bother giving an opinion on how Canute is pushing things, considering he considered himself as "just a viking". I mean, I don't think Askeladd would sacrifice himself for someone he didn't have absolute faith in, considering he was someone who rose to power by tricking people. That is a big leap for someone like him to take.
Of course he can’t stop waves lol. If they do that like magic thing, I guess I wouldn’t watch this anime anymore 😅
Love your reactions 😄
I recommend you golden kamuy it's a Japanese style western about a hunt for gold one of the best seinen stories
I think how the author shows the vikings with Thorfinn is amazing. At first they think he's a joke and something to play with because they believe he's just a slave acting up, but you can see once Thorfinn shows his resolve and he makes it till the end no one is laughing or cracking jokes anymore, they're all solemn with respect they hold for him now as a warrior. So it's not that they feel nothing because they definitely feel respect for him at the end. For vikings the only thing that mattered is strength and this episode is pretty much paramount to that with Canute's speech.
Thorfinn really elevated himself to the top tier of protagonists.
In history king Canute became one of the most greatest Viking leader and the first Viking king to be Christian.
If thorfinn knew jiujitsu then he would just neutralize his enemy without any violence by not getting beat up that much.
