Howard’s Very Last Speech | Plan And Execution | Better Call Saul

by MOEPP

Lalo visits Howard Hamlin at Kim and Jimmy’s apartment.

Season 6 Episode 7 Plan And Execution: On the day of the Sandpiper settlement conference, Jimmy and Kim hastily reshoot their photos with the actor impersonating Casimiro, then pass them to Howard’s private investigator, who is actually working for them. Howard ingests Caldera’s drug upon contact with the photos and embarrasses himself at the conference by appearing manic and accusing Casimiro of accepting a bribe. Howard and Cliff are forced to settle the Sandpiper case for less than they wanted. Lalo surveils Gus’ laundry, realizing he has built a hidden meth lab there. Calling Hector, he tells him he will attack Gus that night after realizing Gus’ men monitored his call. Mike alerts Gus and redirects his security teams to protect Gus, leaving Kim and Jimmy’s apartment unprotected. Howard deduces that Jimmy and Kim plotted his character assassination and confronts them at their apartment. Lalo arrives soon afterward, intending to “talk” to Jimmy and Kim. Kim urges Howard to leave, but Lalo kills him with a gunshot to his head.

Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family’s financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White’s releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White’s lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts “criminal” in “criminal lawyer.”

This scene amazingly makes me tear up, feeling sorry for Howard. Well done Vince G well done.

@water-of-life 2024.02.28 - 3:23 am

The most raw and vulnerable Howard ever was on this show.

@tejaspaleti88 2024.02.28 - 4:24 am

Howard's death never fails to completely catch me off guard, even when I know it's coming. The fact that the music continues and only cuts out after he gets shot and that he's in the middle of a sentence. Not to mention Saul and Kim's utterly horrified reactions.

@abuabdullah9878 2024.02.28 - 4:47 am

What really hurts about this scene is Howard talking about picking himself up again… And he wasn't given a chance to.

@Zak6959 2024.02.28 - 6:12 am

I’m sure it’ll be fine.

@msjahun 2024.02.28 - 1:53 pm

To be honest, I watched and enjoyed all the scenes Jimmy and Kim were "pranking" Howard, also thinking that, comeon this is Howard he's gonna be fine, and then this happened

@DwaveG. 2024.02.28 - 10:39 pm

Good.

@AmolMY 2024.02.29 - 11:43 am

Moral of the story- Howard was a nice guy. Look how he ended up. Don't be a nice guy.

OPTIMISM SOMETIMES GIVE YOU BAD ADVICES

@elijasaurusrex9380 2024.02.29 - 11:35 pm

This scene was so incredibly shocking when I first watched it. I felt the same way when Walter killed Gus: Just pure, unadulterated shock and awe. Vince Gilligan is probably the best TV Show writer to ever live.

@TPM330 2024.03.01 - 9:27 am

Absolutely shocking, scene is in my head still. Howard’s death was a reminder to the realities of better call Saul

@jackalleva5095 2024.03.01 - 12:59 pm

I watched this scene high. I Nnver experience a scene more intense.

@theravenman 2024.03.01 - 5:27 pm

sounds and looks so fake

@Tripod9648 2024.03.02 - 1:17 am

1:36: “ Burn you to the ground? Come on, you always land on your feet.”

This line and especially Kim’s subtle eye glancing at Jimmy always makes this scene so memorable for me. Howard is a smart lawyer. He’s smart enough to know his being pranked and confident enough to know it’s them. Every line exchanged between Howard, Jimmy, and Kim in this scene, is played to be oblivious. Jimmy and Kim probably would expect for Howard to try to play smart and carry with him a wire or a recorder. Same to what Chuck did to Jimmy years ago. But even if Howard had come with the intend to privately omit a confession, Jimmy subtly admits and advices him to move forward, since he’s always had tremendous luck. This line doesn’t confirm or deny anything. Does it show care? confidence on Jimmy’s incredible social intellect to manipulate, or did Jimmy forgot to play the role and acted out as his persona; Saul Goodman? That’s why Kim glances. That’s why she watches intently at the conversation. She wants to continue playing the role as the puppet masters and she isn’t about to let Jimmy go off script. She especially cheeks him with a single look. Beautiful illustration of the dynamic between the two. Their desire to control and manipulate Howard’s life has infected them both and has filled them with a strong desire to continue.

This is truly the moment Howard became deceased

@collegemaster5683 2024.03.02 - 9:40 pm

Howard: "Who are you?"
Lalo: "Me? Nobody."

Me: "…I see what you did there…"

@stevenhedtmann7244 2024.03.02 - 9:49 pm

Howard deserved absolutely nothing that came to him, Chuck deserved everything he got. Howard would atleast still be alive if he had chosen ANY day other than this, to confront them.

@LostWretched 2024.03.03 - 1:26 am

Just talk. 😊

@JayKaysian 2024.03.03 - 3:28 am

Waltuh

@splasch2249 2024.03.03 - 3:50 am

the best scene in breaking bad universe

@andrewdavid9412 2024.03.03 - 5:47 am

Howard was my favorite character on this show.

@specialandroid1603 2024.03.03 - 1:53 pm

Odd, Howard and Lalo are actually very good friends

@PoliceBodyCam 2024.03.04 - 9:08 am

He even offered glasses
He was a gentleman till the end
He just asked them straight up
Whiteout yelling or screaming like most would

@heyblue5386 2024.03.04 - 11:52 am

The sadest thing is Howard admits to being in debt, depressed and his failing marriage.

@siddharthanand5652 2024.03.04 - 7:51 pm

It's not the breaking bad universe if a good side character dies horribly…

@CheechElMexicano 2024.03.05 - 8:19 am

He landed face first, i suppose

@alreadylost6587 2024.03.05 - 8:39 am

Howards a perfect example of a good man in a evil word and what happens to them.

@Lackhatred 2024.03.05 - 11:17 am

I haven’t watched the credits in silence with my jaw dropped like this since watching game of thrones back in 2016.

@alexsg5384 2024.03.06 - 3:10 am

Apart from what majority may agree, for me Howie deserved this, yes he was covering Chuck’s true colors but so what? He never stood up for Jimmy or for what he himself believed, thats why Jimmy hated him, he was such a crybaby and continued to fall for it over and over again

@GOMAD-qe1xu 2024.03.06 - 6:04 am

It's so sad that after all, nobody knows about what really happened to Howard and where his body is. This is something Jimmy and Kim would never forget.

@karadanianoI 2024.03.06 - 6:17 am

i never cried with the death of a beloved character.
i always thought it was something that couldn't happen to me. i didnt cry with william wallace's death, Mufasa, even the red wedding as sad as it was didnt manage to even make me shed a tear but Howard's death made me cry a river. that was probably the most pure, humble and down to earth person to ever be portrayed in any kind of media and the way they treated him is beyond disgusting.

@matthewdh123 2024.03.06 - 9:49 pm

Imaging if all three of them jumped him when he started attaching the silencer.

@shawncosmos5431 2024.03.07 - 1:33 am

A very sad scene. Howard being buried under the soon to be drug lab was just awful..

@oliwardcomics 2024.03.08 - 6:45 am

everyone loved this but it always seemed so forced and fake to me. I cant put my finger on it but theres something disingenuous about this scene that stands out from every other scene in the whole show. its as though they were out of ideas and just trying to wrap things up as quickly as possible

@jungminlee197 2024.03.08 - 8:20 am

i watch this every time hoping for a different outcome…😢

@tonycasimiro4034 2024.03.08 - 10:24 pm

Damn, I used to hate this man, then sided with him and then just felt sorry for Howard. They really did him dirty.

@Brian-uy2tj 2024.03.09 - 6:19 am

Such a total psychopath. Lalo is the perfect villain. I love to hate him.

@echodeltatango8030 2024.03.09 - 2:18 pm

It seems like Howard would have known who Lalo was, after it became common knowledge around the courthouse, and Saul was shunned by everyone because he was "Salamanca's guy."

@Goleadorr 2024.03.09 - 11:42 pm

Let’s talk 😊

@yarrrriamapirate 2024.03.10 - 3:58 am

"you two are soulless" four words that cut deep because they're true

@Kursedxx 2024.03.10 - 5:23 am

Howard was like the voice of reason in this show. And got fked even in his death. Such a sad way to go. And goddamn what a beautiful show.

@shiketoshep3367 2024.03.11 - 4:24 am

I feel like execution has a double meaning in this episode. One of the darkest episodes of BCS and quite frankly, one of the best.

@silikon2 2024.03.11 - 5:41 am

Who would have expected Howard to be one of the most noble and tragic characters in this show?

@ReiHydraCombatWalker 2024.03.11 - 6:19 am

Its weird how Howard fell for same trap Chuck did that ultimately led to his demise: Impatience.

If he waited for the meeting to conclude before confronting the judge, he wouldn't have ruined his career with the failed expose and Jimmy and Kim's plans would have all been ruined.

If he took one day to reflect that maybe he did this all to himself, he wouldn't have accidentally met Lalo and shot him for being a witness.

Much like Chuck, his desperation for a gotcha moment, got him.

@carlosferreira3797 2024.03.11 - 11:22 pm

Lalo = Lawful Evil
The Twins = Neutral Evil
Tuco = Chaotic Evil
