@Bronosaurus552 2024.08.17 - 12:50 am

Considering how old this game is, maybe the tropes it used weren't overused back then?

@Gamergirl2million 2024.08.17 - 1:22 am

I love seeing old PlayStation games!- makes me think about what I had missed since I was either too young or not born yet to play these games…I still can’t believe I am even an adult now at college and never played these old games!-

…Third time- could you consider playing Purple from Scopophobia Studios?- it has a rating of 17+ but it isn’t even that bad- I know you have played games like The Hanging Man so I think it would be possible you could play this too!- I think you would like it and it’s from only two people!-

@MrNaleIt 2024.08.17 - 1:23 am

Feels very weird to harp on "overused" fantasy tropes in a game that came out in 1998. Especially while acknowledging the era when it comes to the control scheme. Going from your other videos to this, it felt very jarring how vehemently upset you were about fantasy tropes being overused in a game from 1998. Good video otherwise, though

@thesnake4015 2024.08.17 - 1:34 am

I know how fromsoftware fans tend to over-speculate how every game they made was used to make the following ones but like to think that the dungeons in elden ring where you have to lure invincible shadow versions of basic enemies into a light in order to fight them was inspired by this game

@Flareon1229 2024.08.17 - 1:58 am

Great video as always!

You should totally check out Dementium: the ward if you haven't! Short little survival horror on the DS thats far from perfect but surprisingly effective. It has a sequel too that I haven't played yet!

@docbaker3333 2024.08.17 - 2:19 am

Cool I love that more people are covering the More obscure fromsoft titles because they all look really interesting.

@prcervi 2024.08.17 - 2:33 am

i remember watching a playthrough of this game years ago, good game, about as scary as could be expected of a PS1 game (ambiguous origami foes), jfc tank controls (curse of the console, nothing to be done)
narrative is a bit confusing at times but i still enjoyed it

@RenoKyrie 2024.08.17 - 2:37 am

I thought this is Black Souls

@jackrussell1165 2024.08.17 - 3:07 am

Good horror game? Is eldridge horror considered a horror ? then Bloodborne is gor you

@evinbraley 2024.08.17 - 3:23 am

Oh, now i know why this game sounded so familiar. It's because way back when the SBFP played the sequel Echo Night: Beyond for the the Halloween series they used to do. Seemed like an interesting game; Your heartbeat being a healthbar of sorts, it taking place on the moon, etc.

@therandomartist3201 2024.08.17 - 3:32 am

I’d love to see fromsoft take the engines they used for the dark souls games, bloodborne, Elden ring, and sekiro to make horror games i promise they’d either make bangers or a….admirable attempt

@Crimsonrosso 2024.08.17 - 5:57 am

babe wake up new ben again video just dropped

@Dunkydoggo 2024.08.17 - 6:06 am

Soooo ur gonna make a review in the other echo night games

@Omnicrom 2024.08.17 - 6:21 am

Wait, hang on, I think this is a game I've been trying to track down for years now! I remember that there was a video game magazine I had that had an article on this game, and I have been trying on and off to figure out what the hell game it was for ages because I haven't been able to remember/track down what magazine it was actually featured in.

This literally has all the things I remember in it, collecting the astral pieces, a boat as the primary setting, a mention that there were a limited number of curing potions, and a mention of three possible endings where you got the best ending by collecting all the astral pieces and not taking the knife…

When I clicked on this video I was not expecting to answer a lingering question like this. I guess I too will be able to pass on and hand off an astral piece to you for this video.

@spiritlaw 2024.08.17 - 6:56 am

Personally- I don't see much of an issue with the Bad thing, Good thing plot element. Sometimes you just need a good pair of MacGuffins to write a tragedy for every victim involved in the chase for them- whether directly or just caught in the wake.

BUT GOD FUCK THE CASINO FUCK IT TO HELL

@procrastinatingdestiny 2024.08.17 - 6:56 am

Now I simply wonder if youll be tackling the other games in the series as well

@hiruxtsuki 2024.08.17 - 8:15 am

When you said that Echo Night is a horror mystery game and described the game play, it reminded me of the Spirit Hunter series (Death Mark, Spirit Hunter:NG, Shibito Magire/Death Mark 2)

@megahobbit5972 2024.08.17 - 11:25 am

Always good seeing some old horror games get some love.

Funnily the ps1 had 2 eras without the joystick then with.

Obviously the one with came later down the line due to the games like ape escape and Metal gear solid.

Tho still charming seeing how it looks without

@KingOfInanis 2024.08.17 - 12:42 pm

Ben, when playing old games that were made literally before the 2000s don't expect an original plot XD literally most games, even back then, followed popular trends to get players to engage

this is literally like the 2nd or 3rd time you get annoyed at an "unoriginal" plot when the game is so old

@PinnePon 2024.08.17 - 1:03 pm

@The_outwardNechromancer_Kaia 2024.08.17 - 1:44 pm

I wonder if Ben is a persona fan; keep seeing persona ost's in videos lol

@koiminnix6120 2024.08.17 - 2:47 pm

Will you consider making a video on the game "Antumbra"? its a text-based horror game that was so weird and interesting I spent way too long just trying to find a playthrough of it.(I couldn't remember the name). I recently remembered it and found out that the dev is working on a sequel. I hope that you at least consider checking it out, it's so unique and disappoints me that such a game will be forgotten after all these years.

@FafnirVestra 2024.08.17 - 3:01 pm

Yo Ben, I think you´ll really like "I´m Scared"
(also nice plushy at 2:28 of yourself)

@Digidragon55 2024.08.17 - 6:08 pm

You missed Demon Souls ,when talking about Dark Souls!

@fizz576 2024.08.17 - 6:14 pm

Early Fromsoft and clunky camera controls go hand and hand even their early ps2 games don't use the right analog stick to control the camera even though the console came with a dual analog stick controller.

@nickblake8767 2024.08.17 - 6:51 pm

this is the darksouls of horror games *cue laugh track*

@Bluecho4 2024.08.17 - 8:48 pm

The idea of hopping around time and space to help people would be explored again by FromSoft in 2018's Deracine.

Bloodborne is a horror game man. It was my first souls game and fear was always what killed me

Wait till u talk about the other 2 Echo Nights

@HamazuraGOD 2024.08.18 - 12:53 am

LET'S GOOOOOOO us Echo Night fans eating with this! Echo Night is one of my favourite games of all time. I absolutely adore its sad and melancholic atmosphere.

@johnathancactus 2024.08.18 - 1:00 am

Ben… based on what you said about Echo Night… you NEED to play Farewell Planet. It's a beautiful game where you go & fulfill the final wishes of all the robots (people? its never really made clear) in a village before taking them to pass on. It's a very short game (~4 hours I think), but its absolutely amazing. It has an incredible art style… It's just a really awesome game that is not talked about nearly enough!! (It's by the creator of BOKURA, by the way! That's how I found it :-])
