When I first moved into my house, to store my clothing, I set up some filing cabinets and drawers I already had. That said, I knew this was only temporary, and when my partner Elliot moved in with me we decided it was time to upgrade this space to have more storage for both our clothes. So, I took some measurements, drew up some plans, and decided to reach out to a contractor and get a quote on how much it would be to get exactly what I wanted. After sending over the plans, I got a quote from the contractor and let’s just say … I am not willing to spend $12K on this. So that’s when I decided I would just do it myself.

A velvety orange or sage would have gone well for the centre bench complimenting the orange and blue items in the room and the lighter feeling of the room
Kelsey, who did the floors ? Are they polished concrete?
Well done! Good call on simplifying the stairs. Great job!
I love how you make sure to highlight the value of true craftsmanship and the cost of materials also! Also is a 12,000 dollar unit going to give you a return on your house? All excellent points and very thoughtful.
And yes we love!!! 💯
I love this, well done. Think the peach light is whats throwing off the emerald in the room though. Can it be redone in a green?
so do you guys come down from the second floor to the basement to get dressed?
I love the end result and it's definitely better than 12,000, but the cheap ass in me is crying that you spent 100 dollars just for the top to that dresser!
Amazing! Love your designs! Great job and what a savings!!!
I always forget how much I LOVE your bathroom!!!!!!!
You could’ve stacked the dressers and used more vertical space! You’re both kinda tall and could have def used a couple more drawers above
It turned out amazing! I’m all for DIYs and organizing. Another future idea is to create a hole over the laundry basket and put a door in front that hides the laundry and then you can remove it when it is full. This would also be more convenient than having to take the basket out every time you put something in. But just an idea it looks great as is.
It’s time for you to buy a new H🤍me with him!
I have 2 of those 3 drawer malm dressers. Both off Facebook marketplace. Took me a couple years to find a second one for a decent price.
i was thinking that you would cut piece in the middle of the drawers, get rid of the bottom of the drawers and stitch together the drowers front from insidé so you would have a huge drawer for your laundry🤔
Ugh i’ve been looking for the malm in the oak look and just missed my shot with it on marketplace last week! I love what you did with the dresser area. And the two sides for the back piece? Chefs kiss 😚👌
Excellent call Kelsey!! When you put those behind it made your Grandfather's picture just pop!♥️👍
The books definitely aren’t working for me but knowing you, you’ll keep changing the space and upgrading it where you can!
girl what is your eyebrow makeup routine it looks so natural?? i had no idea your natural brows were so blonde
Peter Thiel and Blake Masters book in the collection :/
It turned out gorgeous!
It definitely looks built in with the matching backing! Come thru Kelsey 🫶🏿🤗
Brilliant mini makeover 🎉
Awesome 😊
I think some things that would also look great would be using the leftover drawer pieces from the extra dresser to make a door for in front of the laundry so that the drawer front lines continue all the way from wall to wall and hide the laundry. Also, making a strip to go behind the dressers that you can build outlets into or a way to neatly feed cords through. I also think shelves for the books above would look nice. Could even paint them to tie in the green.
Love the channel, I never miss a vid 😘
It looks incredible!
Loveeeeeee this unit so much!! It's so functional and stylish and definitely looks custom made. You definitely saved yourself some money there! 🥰💕
Side note, he definitely should wear something reflective if he runs in the dark. Can't ever see the runners that don't until last second, especially if it gets a little misty in winter. x
I still love your grampas naked girl art. That is the hero of the wall!
You did an excellent job! ☺️👏
The books idea doesn't work imo. A beautiful long piece of wood on top of all the drawers would have been a better idea. It would hide the gap at the back, the cracks/gaps between drawers AND it is wood – easy to sand/oil/stain/varnish. Because the tops of the drawers have different grains, they don't go together.
outfit at the 15 min mark is so fire idk why it works so good for her but its top notch
All you really did was get two ikea dressers and slab a piece of wood in between 😂
You moved in with Justin Trudeau ?!
I read a bunch of those books in grad school 😂 what is Elliott studying?
It looks great, I feel like if you can find a green/emerald lamp to replace the orange one it would really tie it all in!
Hmmm , maybe just some ikea storage baskets & new folding techniques would help ? Also less is more so maybe Marie Kondo your clothes? 😊
Cutting into the molding and adding som edging would make for a more seamless look
Yeah, I like it better with the back. This is probably my favorite ikea “hack” / upgrade.
I have to say I’m a bit disappointed with this video. 1 piece of flat-pack furniture replaced with another that does almost the exact same thing. I understand $12K is not doable for most, but comparing someone’s artistry to ikea and then giving it points simply because it’s cheaper is unfortunate.
Great idea
I agree with others that the space needs a book shelf. There's a bit of lack of balance in the finished design
I really like what you have done here! ❤❤ My only suggestion, if you care to hear it, is I would arrange the books on the wall, in a scattered shelving group, on their sides. (Hope that makes sense!) That would make the desks look less cluttered, and help take up some wall space, while adding a lot of color to the empty wall.
You can mirror the emerald and do a little pop by painting the ceiling in the alcove the same color
i literally have the same exact dresser bc i was obsessed with it from ikea AND i found it on facebook marketplace too our minds
I really love it. So much ingenuity. Are we surprised? My only ick is… too many books. It would drive me mad with how cluttered it makes the space look. I do like how she's pulled them forward so the fronts line up (bookshop style) and organised them in colour but… Elliot, you need to need to downscale bro. Sorry, dude! Can't your spare room become a spare room/library? Oh and a hack to fill the gap at the back and still provide access… a strip of wood on a hinge attached to the back of the dresser. Have a notch cut out of the strip so you can flip it back for access.
I think I'm going to paint my malm now. Not oak but definitely better than it is.
Honestly the laundry wall fix is my favorite part!
Everything looks so nice, I have a suggestion the open area where the basket is , could you build a sort of " garage " type " of door front with any extra wood , cut them into three drawer fronts like your other drawers and place them on a bracet system that you can lift like a garage door , almost like a roll top desk type track system and then it would look like a complete unit and you can still access your basket to shoot hoops. No disrespect just a friendly suggestion. Hugs from Pa. USA 🇺🇸
girl just be yourself, you don’t need to copy AAVE just because it’s trendy on tiktok and non black people call it Gen Z slang. “it do be lookin like” like are you fr? you know damn well you didn’t grow up talking like that 😂 you’re CANADIAN! be yourself! damn!
I am bit lost. So you are not willing to buy relatively cheap IKEA MALM and you hunt the 2nd hand. That means you have to drive there and back. But you are ok to spend money on flight and extraordinary vitamins. Priorities….DIY is important and it should be done but not in all cases. What you did is eclectic solution for a complicated space. You are skilled. Thus why didn't you crafted your designed built in yourself? Yes it will take 4 weeks or even 8 but it's your home.
