The hanging balloons is my favourite junji Ito story I’m just glad it got a good adaptation
The stories were NOT scary. I was not impressed at all.
My favorite episodes were the "ice cream man" and "the bully" because of the music.
Ts good asf
I thought it was pretty good but, different strokes for different folks.
Probably the opposite of Vinland Saga where the series is just straight up garbage and wasted srsly
I really enjoyed the bully episode.
Only just started looking at Junji Itos work but I found it a real enjoyment as I like the gory visuals that are put into the show and manga.
The episodes "The bully" and "The layers of terror really stuck with me and I even re watched those episodes specifically in order to get the full story because I enjoyed trying to understand the mind of the characters even though we only see them for a short time and started formulating these backgrounds for each. Plus the ominous and sinister climax of both those episodes are just the most terrifying out of the series in my opinion.
Japanese tales of the macabre, or as I like to call it, "Junji Ito Collection: Season 2"
Have you seen "Tales of Terror from Tokyo"? They are five-minute horror and sometimes black comedy stories. Some are very interesting which is surprising as they are so short in length.
The episode "Only Two of Us" inspired Junji Ito to draw its story in manga form.
The Ice-cream man episode reminded me of the Paul Jennings horror stories.
Yea no I’m just gonna wait for the adult swim one about Uzumaki
i completely agree, the art style doesn't do junji ito's work justice and most stories adapted were boring/lackluster.
It was traumatizing, atleast for me. Best horror anime that I've seen so far.
Very dull and repetitive. The stories end without any reason to why it was happening to said people, either. Found the series to be very disappointing.
I can't believe they started the show with that first episode, which wasn't scary at all, had unlikeable characters, and had irritating voice acting. Why?? I think they should have started off the show with the tunnel episode instead. Anyone who was unfamiliar with Ito's work would probably have no faith and turn it off after that one.
The family in episode one annoyed the hell out of me but I loved Layers of fear
How have you been brother it's been a while since I've commented
I was a fan of his "Layer of Terror" short story, and I was a bit reluctant to check out its animated form, knowing that the previous Junji Ito's show was a disaster. So I grab some friends of mine, and we watch the show from the beginning together. Suprisingly, at the end, we were all agreed that "Layer of Terror" was the most horrific one. In the end, I belive that this is still not the adaptation that Junji deserved, but progress are being made. Hopefully when that Uzumaki anime drop, we can finally see the fruitful result after all of this pain.
i'm sorry but saying ""i cant review every story because there's not enough to say" and then using "the bully" as an example while having it shown during this, there's allot to say on that one, its simplicity is its strength.
I enjoyed the show, the animation, you can't say the voice acting is bad either,
Could they have done better to capture the horror in the Manga? Of course, but I found the visuals serviceable
I do enjoy ambiguity in horror, I don't believe every story needs to wrap up in a neat little bow, letting the imagination flow afterwards is part of the overall story IMO
If I had to nitpick it would be the opening credits, they don't really set the tone for the stories to follow, the outro is perfectly fine, but I reckon Cabinet of Curiosities had a better intro than this, however between the two this is the series I would actively watch again
Tbh, watching the series so far, I didn’t feel scared. I felt bored. First of all, the Art style looks like they tried tracing the manga. Second of all the Animation Looks cheap as hell.
Finally, I didn’t have that feeling of fear and dread when I watched the anime. Only when I read the manga was how and when I got that feeling.
Dawg I had no idea what I was getting myself into, they are very entertaining… just so bizarrely strange
Cliff hanger after cliffhanger.
I really loved the library story, and the statue one.
The statue one – for me at least – was reminiscent of those walking mannequin monsters from Silent Hill 2!
i don't get why they made hanging balloons so goofy i showed it to a friend who didn't read any junji ito and he found it pretty good but it's just not on the same lever with the manga
I just watched all episodes today and i loved it I hope the make another season
I watch all the episodes, while I like some of them most don't really make sense as to why or how most of weird things happened.
I feel like I was told an overarching story and I just can’t connect it… and the make it very obvious in library vision that everything is connected… also I didn’t listen to the stories after the credits but still loved the series
I hate the episodes with the Souichi kid in it. They're boring.
Ugh. Seems like Studdio Deen didn't learn their lesson…
Layers of terror scared me the most 🫠
The show got me at creepy scenes and visuals. But I would agree that there wasn't much to offer in terms of story.
I think his stories do end pretty abruptly, thinks happen pretty quick so in that sense it did feel similar
If it's by the same team that made the first animated show than it's definitely not better t
Never read the mangas but my favorite episode were Hanging Balloons and Layers of Fear. Those episodes left me with chills
The intended effect was to give you the creeps but most of the stories turned out to be hilarious 😂
I think a reputable studio just needs to take time putting in quality art direction, and animation behind Ito’s work in order for it to really capture his formula. Like what Adult Swim and Production IG is doing with Uzumaki. Its still probably a while off but with just the little they’ve shown us, it looks pretty amazing
