I thought it was pretty bad. No subtlety and the anime only content was so on the nose and cliche it hurts. They need to step it back with the sad piano music too.
Nice ,hah funnily enough I was able to catch up in the manga thanks to you hah keep up the greatness
Fantastic so far, so much better than the rehash of Berserk.
First episode made me more hyped than i thought i gonna be. Introduction of Einar and "that was how Thorfinn and I met".
The first episode made me cry which I wasn't really expecting. I'm so glad we got the anime original flashback with Einar. It really makes the ending of the episode hit in a different way for me than it did reading it.
I'm so happy MAPPA kept the same team from WIT at the helm because it was evident they really care about the material unlike we've seen with other seinen manga (cries in Kingdom S1 and 2 and Berserk 2016).
So far this has met and surpassed my expectations and I can't wait for more.
They did such a great job doing Einar introduction. I was SPEECHLESS whole episode and Opening & Ending were very beautiful.
Ok so, the beginning poem gave HUGE Northman vibes, and loved that it was in old Norse too. And yeah the symbolism too. And im not sure what they're telling me to carve on my body, the land, the sea, my enemies, etc, especially with the baby scene and then "carve that warmth in to me". Is it love? And we do know the symbolism of love was also huge in S1, is it blood (sin of man)? I'm really trying to figure that one out.
I’ve had danhiem and heilung playing all day in anticipation
When will episode 2 come out?
HERE WE GOOOOOO. I was waiting for the RLR video on this. We've been waiting and it's here and MAPPA delivered! The new anime original content is amazing. Yukimura and the director of the anime sat down and did an interview together and he expressed gratitude at the anime original scenes and I think that blessing alone is enough to make this first half such a great introduction to Einar, despite some differences that occurred between manga and anime on his initial personality.
The baby part got me. I had a hard time moving on from that and it really stuck with me. I think it's a great juxtaposition from the father just taking someone else's life while coming to celebrate and touching his baby, a brand new life, with the blood of someone who is now dead. Really hard hitting stuff.
I finished reading this arc last night and loved it to bits. I was so FUCKING NERVOUS about this adaptation, but they delivered, OH MY GOD did they deliver. Within the first minute I had to whip out my manga to see if it opened up the same way, and it DIDN'T, and to see the filler/anime original content Wit/MAPPA delivered here had me fangirling to say the least. I hope they continue showing Einar's family when he references them in the future; that would be an amazing way to expand on the source material using the amazing filler they added in the season 2 premier. I was so overjoyed with just about every aspect of this episode, and the opening is amazing. Mighty river, release my soul! I need to see the rest of this adaptation!! 😭😭
Great first episode , but what really caught me was the intro and op it was so different and had such a cool/ deep mystical vibe to it , loved it , this is gonna be a great season
Small thing, Ketil doesn't grab Einar's balls it's the guy before him. I'm also disappointed 😞
Farmland Saga is here at last hell yeah never been so happy to see plowing and lumber work been hyping this up ever since S1 plus without that I never would have read the manga no lie
It was tough resisting reading the manga but we’re finally here!
It’s only the first episode and I already like Einar. The guy lost his family and land but rather than pursuing revenge, he still wants to live and rebuild. Something Thorfinn failed at.
The person who bought him didn’t seem that bad honestly, but his character design and the state that we saw Thorfinn in tells me that Einar is fucked.
Also they renewed Bastard so all is Holy 🔥
Winland Waga
Did somebody know from where they get "engrave it, …" quote? I don't remember that from manga
These chapters remind me of the rice arc in vagabond
8:20 I think an adequate term is learned helplessness. When a situation has a bad outcome no matter what you do so you end up giving up and accepting the bad circumstance because you assume it'll never change. Extremely common in people in captivity or abusive situations.
The scene where they threw the sick slave woman over the side of the boat was brutal as hell. This is gonna be one hell of a season.
Peakland Saga is back, with the most anticipated arc which is the Slave arc, also known as Farmland Saga. I have no idea what happens in the story and am going completely blind, but I do know that it's gonna be very philosophical. The episode focused on an entirely new character and it was still mesmerizing.
The anime went for a more melancholic and on the nose tone, and i don't how to feel about it. There's something about how the manga portrays slavery so matter-of-actually that i really loved, it makes the world feel more real, and it just hits different. There's even effed-up humour and comedic timing in the scene where they threw the sick woman in the ocean in the manga (due to how more proactive Einar was in that scene in the manga) that really emphasizes and drives homes how expendable slaves are, and the dark humour and matter-of-fact nature of it makes it feel more real imo. Yes, in the anime they still threw the woman in the ocean, but it was played very straight in the episode.
The filler done right. Amazing episode.
The anime original scene with Einar made him feel like a cuck tbh, I was like: your mother was killed and your sister was getting kidnapped, can you at least fight back a little ?! All it took was an elbow to the face to make him comply ?!
Volume 13 just released in English as well. Mine came in the mail today 😀
So close to 100k !!!!
Farm arc is the best arc in the manga. The ep was soo good. I loved the anime only moment in the beginning of the ep. Thorfinn’s character development is what I’m rlly excited to see again and canute
Wasn't Vinland saga on prime video?
Honestly I'll watch it when it's ended so I don't have to wait weeks for episodes lol
This episode tearing up like a biggidy bitch😂
The atmosphere was top notch.
Einar anime only introduction alone was better than all of Chainsaw Man s1 in emotions and character department.
Thorfinn= Hiei
Einar= Kuwabara
Canute= Kurama
Snake= Yusuke
Cannot wait to see thorfinns hell dream animated
As a anime only i'm still unsure whether to read the manga or not i just really enjoy the animation in vinland saga so much
PEAKLAND SAGA
Remember when Thorfinn had a conversation with the slave girl in Askeladds hometown about how he would kill his owner and run away if he were to be a slave? This episode's final scene shows how broken and depressed he has become
edit: can't wait for more Yutaka Yamada OST as well, Vinland Saga 1 had such an amazing soundtrack
