Miri Unasaka (海坂 ミリ, Unasaka Miri?) is one of the main protagonists of the anime series, Buddy Daddies. A vibrant and courageous four-year-old who is now being fostered by Kazuki and Rei following the assassination of her father.

Overview
Miri is an innocent girl who is just as energetic and fearless. Her father is a mafia boss and a major broker for a human trafficking organization. Her mother is the mistress of the boss. When she arrives at the hotel in search of her father, she becomes involved in a gunfight and is rescued by Kazuki. She is friendly and refers to Kazuki as “Papa Kazuki” and Rei as “Papa Rei.”[3]

Appearance
Miri is a short, pale-skinned girl with large brown-orange oval-shaped eyes. Her short brown hair is curled inwards, and her fringe is just above her brows. She uses a pink clip that matches her outfit to clip small strands of bangs on her left side, allowing her hair to part on the left.

In the trailer, she appears to be dressed casually. It consists of a pink thick winter coat and an orange turtle-necked cotton sweatshirt on the inside. It is paired with light-brown shorts on the outside and thick black leggings on the inside, along with her winter pink shoes.

Personality
Miri is cheerful and energetic, even when faced with danger. She is naïve due to her age and often runs into situations that are not safe for a young girl. She easily trusts and attaches to people.[4] She was so unconcerned sometimes that she didn’t see the gunshots zipping by her in the first episode or the rifle pointing straight at her head when she was taken hostage by her own father whom she didn’t know. She also looks up to her mother, claiming that her mother cooks better Hamburg steak than Kazuki, despite the fact that she is too young to comprehend that her mother despises her and that all of the food she served Miri was store-bought.

Part of it is due to her age, but even so, she exhibits a terrible lack of comprehension for the perilous circumstances she frequently finds herself in, even when there are real bullets flying around. She isn’t even afraid of strangers, as many children her age are. She’s more of a hassle to deal with on operations than an advantage because she’s an extremely naïve four-year-old. And, regrettably, Kazuki is unable to leave her at home while he and Rei go out without her weeping.

She might be silent sometimes, yet she typically talks loudly. She struggles to control her volume as a hyperactive kid.

Plot
Background
Miri is the daughter of Atsushi Hayami, but he left before she was born. She lived with her mother for the first 4 years of her life, but on Christmas Eve, Miri’s mother sent her into the city to find her father with only a few photos of herself and her parents.[4]

Relationships
Kazuki Kurusu
In order to save a random child that Kazuki only encountered that day and at that event location where they were meant to infiltrate, he lied by presenting himself as her father in hopes of capturing her to hide her safe, while Rei was only waiting for the right opportunity to kill the remaining henchmen of her father, Atsushi Hayami, who was the host of the leisure Christmas event held at Varint Hotel. Kazuki had brought her with them from that day on and had become her adoptive fathers without her awareness.

Rei Suwa
According to Miri, fathers are individuals who come to your rescue when you’re in trouble, which made Rei realize he needed to adjust to Miri and let her call her “Papa” particularly during times of difficulty.[5] Despite the fact that Miri is a vibrant child and Rei is the polar opposite, he appears to care about the child’s feelings.

Atsushi Hayami
Atsushi Hayami, her father, was the leader of a people trafficking group. While she was able to see her real father at the Varint Hotel’s Christmas Day event, he was unable to recognize her as his daughter. Misaki Unasaka, her mother, was his mistress whom he deserted after she became pregnant and came to despise her kid. Miri, while being just four years old, displays none of their bad characteristics.

Miri had indicated that her mother’s talent is singing, and that she is particularly good at it at work. Despite of being unknowingly abandoned by her own mother because she sees her as a factor that makes her life more miserable, it could still be presumed that the two have a good relationship as mother and daughter, given the love Miri have for her mother’s hamburger steak and would brag about it to Kazuki that it has no comparison.

Etymology
Miri’s name is entirely written in katakana; no kanji appear in her name. As a result, her name could mean a variety of things. However, because Kazuki’s name contains the number 1 (一) and Rei’s name contains the number 0 (零), Miri’s name is most likely meant to be the word “Milli,” which is an English prefix used in mathematics to mean “one thousandth part of,” as in millimeter and the like.
