Its true canute actually poisoned harald to take his kingdom . he goes even further, tbh i got minor spoilers because i knew his history . i would defo recommend checking it out once the show is complete to get extra context.
Most of the major events in the story are historically accurate like-
Leif ( Leif the Lucky) being an explorer and him narrating stories of vinland (in north america) to thorfinn (Thorfinn Karlsefni).
Canute being shy in his young age
Thorkell being a general for canute
note – Thors was a fictional character completely along with the young story of thorfinn and thorkell was supposed to be the leader of jomsviking instead. Same with askellad he is mostly fiction.
There is the thing that I really respect about thorfin is that he wants nearly the exact same dream as conout but he is doing it the right way( from my opinion)

"Peace is not the absence of conflict it is the means to resolve conflict through peaceful means" BARS if i've ever heard them! Yeah I feel like that will definitely apply to Thorfinn and where the author is setting up his path a contrast between Canute and Thorfinn as one wants to create peace through more war and the other wants to create peace without the need of violence but through connecting with others and getting through life's challenges with you're head rather than fists all the time.
As for Canute vs. Harald there wasn't a specific reason given in Season 1 as for why people would be fighting over them. Ragnar described the royal family like a "viper's nest" so I think it was a common occurrence for royalty.
It's likely that people sided with Canute because they thought they could control him or even if Canute and Harald had different mothers, the people siding with Canute could have been allied with his mother's family.
Damn, Canute went from an emasculated, beardless soyboy in S1 to a chad rocking a goatee and poisoning people :O

I believe slavery is not inherently wrong but it depends on the time and way it is practiced.
Similarly I guess that in 100 years people will look down on us because we haven't fully embraced veganism and gender theory lol. (I am not comparing slavery and veganism, just the concept of how things are perceived to be wrong over time).
I think back in the day there was no particular taboo when a master had a child with his female slave even if he was married to another woman. The real shame was having a child with a woman who is not your wife or your slave.

Similar goals; different, almost opposite means
Canute influenced by Sweyn & Askeladd
Thorfinn influenced by Thors & Askeladd
Thorfinn represents Askeladd's true side(dislikes violence) & Canute his dark side(any means necessary)
There were means to avoid pregnancy back then, for example, meringue’s original use was birth control until they started using it for baking.

Its absolutely fine and correct to call Ketil a nice and kind person, since the option to buy yourself out of slavery was a rarity in 11th century, basically he was a modern-time humanitarian by freeing multiple people from slavery. The people who whine about the "slave owner" thing have actually never read anything about not only european history, but any history at all
the thing about inheritance is that it wasnt as easy as the oldest son inherits it, it was a divided equally by his sons(that were the laws of inheritance in denmark) so that means that his oldest son gets Denmark and his younger son gets England, and btw if you remember the first episode of the anime you can recall that Thors was participating in the battle, so this battle was fought for Norway, which de facto was ruled by a different person at the time, but de jure was considered to be under the rule of denmark, and that battle was lost by Swein and jomsvikings, which meant that Norway strengthen their independence and they stopped paying taxes to denmark, that is why noone got Norway basically
