Haha I think the kid Leif adopted was named Thorfinn already, maybe common Norse name? and so when he bought him he might have come to pick him up and then realised it wasn't the same Thorfinn he was looking for at least thats what I took from it
Great reaction so funny 😂❤
One thing to note: (and I learned this from playing Crusader Kings) the King has his own lands that he can do with as he pleases, but most of the lands are controlled by his vassals. The system was that the vassals paid taxes basically as protection money; the feudal system was kind of just a giant Mafia. Canute has a lot of vassals under his control, but not that much of his OWN land. Instead of conquering new land, he can find a way to oust one of his vassals and just take direct control, then he gets all the food instead of just a portion in taxes, and the citizens are directly under his order to draft as soldiers as well.

Vinland is peak character development and it only gets better. Of course some people may feel differently
Leif bought bug eyes thinking it was thorfinn because they look the same and have the same name it wasn't, however Leif ended up adopting the kid
"What need does a farmer have to hold so much land that he can't defend himself"
Thorfinn #2 has the same VA as Otomo from Ao Ashi
For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 75-76 (the last five pages of chapter 73 and all of chapter 74 appear to be getting rearranged in when/where the anime will adapt them).
Wulf, the Captain of the Guard (also known by the Norse term “Head Thegn” in the manga) that Canute spars with, is likely based on the real-life Ulf Thorgilsson, commonly known as Ulf Jarl. Who in real-life ended up becoming Canute’s brother-in-law by way of marriage to Canute’s sister Estrid (who we see at the beginning of this episode as well).
And yeah Canute is interested in using Olmar (who is basically the Viking Age version of the “Yankii” character archetype) as a scapegoat in some manner in order for the monarchy to be “justified” in appropriating Ketil’s farmlands.
Leif is such a good man. He's never gonna give up on him.
