Hello and nice
Yess, heard you teddy
Hella respect for einar
Canute nor Ketil and crew have even gotten back yet! All the talk of a coming storm makes me think Gardar is going to end up being a blessing in disguise for the farm defense once Canute's men eventually make it back. Also the transition from Arnheid walking out into the night and cutting to the outro was sooooooooooo good. I love this show.
iirc Hjalti ia definitely dead. The anime cut some lines when Arnheid was telling her story and supposedly the children were left to die by infant exposure. The vikings left the children so when they are selling the women, they can mark them as unmarried. Or something like that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
vinland back to back reminds me of the good old days
10:37 Pretty sure they killed him, I think there was a line in the manga about women without children selling for more money, and people wouldn't buy a baby, so they got rid of him
Honestly, I can see why they have to. Giving someone the control of iron and as a result the control of the supplies of your village's tools completely shifts the balance of power
her son might be that thorfinn look alike I think
Einhar is so sweet. He knowing all of this and still want to help her
I know what I am saying is pretty cold and I will look like a jerk or something. But It was very stupid of the village to make all men go to the battle and leaving only women with their children behind, Couldnt they think of dividing themselves in case of an attack happening while they are away
10:40 we ain't seeing Hjalti
It's funny cause all the guys I've seen react to this said the men needed to fight for that iron, but all the girls that reacted to this said it was pointless. As a guy myself, I also think it was pretty necessary for them to fight, but they just got very unlucky.
They went off on the music this episode!
Snake really risked his life more than he had to, in order to knock Arnheid's husband out without killing him, only doing so after hearing that one of his men was slain. I do feel for him, there really was no way to just let him leave. Snake is not that different from Arnheid, both trying to act as good as possible while thrown into fucked-up positions.
The real difference is just that he with his sword in a hand at least gets to make a choice, while Arnheid did not ever have freedom. Even in the past her parents arranged her marriage and she could not influence her husbands actions. She has always been living under relatively comfortable circumstances considering her positon, but she never had freedom.
I cant stop crying each episode keep breaking my heart even more
well, i felt the same about Arnheid sleeping with Ketil (that man is twice her age), but let's not forget that she's a slave and she can't resist, i mean, she's not allowed to resist. other wise, she will be excuted.
Im sorry but Hjalti confirmed dead, they took him to execute him probably. I mean, Hjalti have nothing to make himself like Thorfinn when he was child (chance from Askellad and revenge anger)
P-O-T-S
I think fighting for iron is reasonable but leaving your village completely defenseless is too reckless.
Einar is simp king. Thorfin is like us rightnow, Audience. U said its better she died….wth….ketil is good human being and farms owner….he is better candidate for her survival than einar.
If that's being nice I'd rather not have a fellow slave be nice. Just be cordial and friendly. Do NOT be nice.
God your eyelash is so sweet
I just don't get why they HAD to fight over the iron. Like couldn't they have just gone over to the other party and say, hey since this doesn't belong to any of us, let's split the work and profit on mining this iron instead of mindlessly fighting to the death.
See, it didn't shock me as much because of the time period, this happened all the time (the Ketil x Arnheid thing).
It shocks me way more to know that CURRENT ERA countries are doing this and get away with it. They don't have the excuse of being a band of Norsemen savages from early centuries with a slavery system in place.
Ketil is probably not much older than 40. So maybe 10 – 15 years older than Arnheid. Not that much.
In a world where the strong and powerful can very much do anything without consequences or laws to punish them along side a culture of justifying and glorifyimg violence it's to be expected that women will have little to no freedom to make any decision that affects their lives.
Even women who aren't slaves like Ketil's wife have to accept and endure the humiliation and indignity of having her husband openly cheating on her with no say in the matter 'cause that's what this society permits.
It's pretty realistic although sickening to see these injustices be an everyday thing in this world/time period.
It's so sad that Arnheid has the chance to raise a child in peace at the sacrifice of her own freedom. She's trapped.
In the manga it was said that “female slave’s price is much higher if she never had a child before”, so they took all the children from women and killed them. “She never had any children if the child is dead” or smth like that. So Hjalti is most definitely dead
Well, I don't like the thing between Ketil and Arnheid either, but knowing that backstory made me think a bit different of him, just a bit.
He insisted and was ready to fight for the woman he loved, but the decision his father made, I think involved all the other people not to let him do it, and then after finding out she died he could've changed a lot and make him hate and fear violence. That's what I think.
she's a whore that's all i gotta say.
I really like s2 but those last 2 episodes were just boring
It’s soooo slow I feel like they should be one episode
I hope the next episode’s will be just a little faster..
Again, as this is rooted in actual historical timelie and considering this age to be around 1000~1010 CE, We need to take a look at Sweden. During this era the Great North Sea Empire of Cnut was developing into what it would become. Cnut was the king of England and Denmark but he also coveted the kingdom of Norway. And the best way to travel to norway with a large host of army was through Sweden. On a side note, Sweden and Denmark would fight 26-30 seperate wars over the control of norway in the middle ages. Sweden was still not a total kingdom with tribal warfare being extremely common, It was in an era where you either have a resource which will make you rich or you are down to be attacked and be taken in as slaves. So the iron was extremely necessary, Gardar and his want to protect his family was what drove him to war. Even the legend that is Thors still kept his weapons in the house because of the age they were in. War is persistent, always has been, and it will always be inevitable. Here in Arnheid's case, the men lost the war and were taken as slaves, so were the women, it is a horrible situation but it was always going to happen. You also need to think why Thors went as far away as Iceland, because it was such a remote place that war would not come over there and people would not be taken into slavery as consequence of that war.
This is only the calm before the true storm starts
