Tilling is essential because of compaction even just minimal till is good looks like you have soil that can be tilled normally and not compromise the soil quality 😊 on my farm we couldn't get by with no till plus with tillage we can limit our chemical usage and that saves us money

Cole I have a question for you why don't you plant wheat and the reasoning behind if you have time to answer I'll be greatly appreciated

No till is a short term system at best ,the difference between the 2 parts of the field make that obvious. The cost of cultivating versus loss of yield is the biggest consideration.I spoke with an old grain farmer many years ago ,he reckoned that no till yield dropped off dramatically after year 3. It might be worth splitting one field, till ,no till and measure the difference in costen versus return

It takes a few years to see the plus of No Till. It don't happen over night or the first year or 2

ILGuy2012 2023.07.01 - 8:36 pm

Here I thought with all of the fields planted, it was time for the farmers to sit back, relax and enjoy watching the crops grow. LOL

There is the possibility that your trash panda buddy might have rabies. Be careful around him. You might need to take your pellet rifle out of the closet.

Hey Cole, Watching this video today reminded me of one of Marion Calmer's most recent videos titled " Intense Drought is Amplifying Differences in Calmer's Fertilizer and Stratification Studies " which kind of explains exactly what you found in the waterways where Cooper tilled into the crops a bit. It seems that tilling in the P & K that you guys have Top spread over your acres gives a significant boost to those plants….. You may have found something to help you get to 300 bushels and acre sooner ……….

Did you do this so when something messes up you can just sue them !!????

Shadowfax2121 2023.07.02 - 7:43 pm

Cole – Consider doing a no-plant year on part of that field with Sorghum-Sudangrass and chop/drop the mulch and leave it on the field, part of the no-till is to add more matter to the field. I believe you should get 3 chop/drop out of a season. The roots from mature S-S are prolific. 3rd chop around September, follow with a seeder and spread a cold-weather cover crop (peas?), and plant corn the following year.

Bob Mullins 2023.07.02 - 7:50 pm

The Farm has to be the first priority… The videos are a welcome secondary bonus for us armchair farmers.

The Northern Handyman 2023.07.02 - 8:29 pm

Well im not a farmer but the no tile is as far as i know it proven to yield higher in the long run. Compares to tiled soil that just deplete the ground entirely until the point you have to get a cat d11 with a ripper to even get a 100b/acre yield. So tilling is for corporate farms that just move on when the land is worthless and no-tile is for family farms that want to farm the land for generations.
